Strasbourg

Does anybody know if the ibis or the gutenberg accoms is better for strasbourg pls?

It you are talking about the hotel ibis in petit france (there are 3) then that is a good location.

Looking at the Gutenberg it looks good as well.

The Ibis is in Petit France, the old part of Starsbourg. Gutenberg is by the Cathedral and shopping areas.

Either would make a good base.

Personally, I feel that the Ibis across from the train station is a better location.

I have also stayed in the Ibis on top of the Les Halles shopping mall, which was okay but boring. The Ibis at the station has incredible views of the train station under its new glass bubble -- everybody is in awe when they see the photos I took of the train station after dark.

The Ibis in Petite France is the last one that I would choose.

We stayed at the Gutenberg a few months ago for 3 nights. Loved it. The location can't be beat. You're in the heart of everything, literally steps from the cathedral, restaurants, shops and a few blocks from Petit France. It was clean, quiet and comfortable and the staff was friendly.

I've stayed in Ibis hotels before (very good), but not the one in Strasbourg. If you do stay near the train station, you'll have a 15-minute walk into heart of the tourist area where most of the sites are -- the museums, the cathedral, Petit France, etc.

For us, we preferred being in the middle of things.

Here is the view from the room at the Ibis-Gare in Strasbourg.

10 minute walk or 3 minutes on the wonderful tram line!

Thank you everyone! Now it's on to looking for hotels in Colmar!

Kerouac - does the Ibis Gare have parking?

Weather forecast for Bad Wurtemburg looks like rain this weekend and I've got 4 guests coming from the States. Weather has been lovely until yesterday...wouldn't you know!

I was thinking a weekend in Strasbourg might be just what would fit the bill--something for every interest with ways to stay out of the rain/cold if need be.

Will be driving a van, so not sure what the best parking/transportation scenario is for a higher profile car in Strasbourg.

Husband and I aren't spring chickens anymore so can't walk for extreme periods of time--guests are all students-- they'll be fine no matter where we park. I was thinking of taking advantage of the "trio" 24 hour city transporation pass, but we'd still need to park the van somewhere.

Any suggestions/solutions are appreciated.

On second thought...I better repost under my own heading...please disregard, while I repost! thx.

Klondike, I don't if it has its own lot. I arrived by train and picked up a car only when it was time to leave. I'm sure that the Accor website will say how the parking works, but in any case, under that immense square in front of the train station is the train station parking lot.
