How about Thong, it's down in Kent. Pressumably gets its name for the unusually high rainfall in the area, after all it's got to be a place "stuck where the sun don't shine"!

There's a new book out called 'Far From Dull' by Dominic Greyer which has photgraphs of lots of sign posts to these places.
http://www.sortof.co.uk/Dull/ I skimmed it in Waterstones last week, having spent my New Year about 2 miles from Dull. To my sadness it doesn't have the infamous, "Lost". The council are thinking about stopping replacing the sign, because it gets nicked so often. http://www.photoscotland.com/scotland/scotland_pic5.htm |
I liked the book "Crap Towns" but prefered the one on roundabouts!

I enjoyed seeing Mudchute on my way to Greenwich.

Ah, now there's a history attached to that, suze. You might have noticed some slightly raised ground on one side of the station (now a farm and a park). That's where they dumped the mud dug out from where the Millwall Dock is (on the other side of the line), apparently the first mechanical lifting ramp of its kind, or some other fascinating detail of industrial history. The land actually took a long time to dry out and settle sufficiently to become usable at all.
Now that the area's moving upmarket, there are occasional (not so serious) suggestions that it should be renamed, but I hope not. |
Ask and ye shall receive. Thanks to you all.
Now, any more? |
