Strand Palace or Kensington Moat House in London

I decided on one of these two hotels for a trip to London in January. What is the better hotel in term of location, room, and breakfast? Thanks.

I can't compare for you because we have never stayed at the Kensington Moat House. We do, however, always stay at the Strand when we visit London. It is an ideal location, walking distance from so many places and tube stations. Also excellent bus traffic right in front of the hotel, which makes it so easy to get around the city. We will be staying there again in December.

You will find negative replies on the forum if you do a search, but we find it comfortable and above all well located.

We stayed at the K Moat House last October. The location can't be beat--you're just down the street from the tube stop, one block off of Cromwell Road (Natural History Museum, V&A, Brompton Oratory, Harrods, great restaurants). The hotel staff is very friendly and they have a good, full English breakfast that's included in the room price. The rooms themselves were a bit on the tattered side (some more than others--several friends were there at the same time), but large enough and comfortable.

In February I stayed at the Rembrandt on Cromwell Road and I definitely recommend that. When you can get it on sale it's a great bargain. Check smoothhound.com for prices and pics of hotels in London.

Here is my response to a previous question about the Stran Palace:

"I have stayed at the Strand Palace three times. It is a large hotel across the street from the Savoy. Like many London hotels, the rooms are extremely small, but I like the location. From the Strand it is walking distance or a short tube ride to most of the major tourist attractions in London, particularly Covent Garden, the theater district and the River Thames. As the previous poster said, there have been some negative comments on this forum about the location and hotel. IMO, it is a good choice, particularly if you get a good rate."

Although I have not stayed at the Kensington Moat House, I have stayed near there and it, too, is a good choice, particularly if you plan to go to the Natural History Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Harrods, Royal Albert Hall,or any of the colleges and specialist libraries. The Knightsbridge/South Kensington area is more upscale than the Strand and has more of a residential feel. I prefer the Strand, but both locations are good.

If you type Strand Palace in the text search box above, you will find more info.

Have a wonderful time in London.
