storing luggage
i will be in italy in the 1 st week of august any ideas on where i can store luggage for the day in florence. i will be coming from venice to florence for a day trip then leaving for rome
|
Have you checked to see if the train station has lockers? Many in larger cities do.

Train station left luggage room?
|
Most train stations have a left luggage room. We did this in Venice just last month.
The prices are (in Euros): 3.60 per bag for the first 5 hours (you pay this amount upfront) .60 per hour for hours 8-13 .20 per hour for hours 14-24 These prices were good in Venice as well as Rome, where we checked. |
This should actually ready that most MAJOR train stations have luggage storage. MOST of the smaller ones do NOT anymore. Be careful!

thanks very much, i have used the facilities at airports in europe not in stations and i heard that some of the locker facilites are closed because of security. also thanks for the prices.

Hi prkrishnan, The Florence Central train station did have lockers the last time I was there. However evidently they fill up very early in the morning. When you face the tracks they are down a ways on your right.
I wonder with the extra security in Italy since the London bombings if the lockers are still available though. I understand security is now tighter and all transportation centers. |
well i am about half way through my europe trip and have used left luggage at Frankfurt, London Stansted, florence, and Rome. rome had the biggest lines. but they are all great and very convenient. the one in rome is probably the biggest. iam going to capri tommorrow and plan to use the one there at the port.

Thanks for the uptodate info prkrishnan, and have a wonderful time on Capri!

Hi prkrishnan. Could you please let us know where the locker in the Florence station is and how much it costed ? We are planning to drive to Florence from Sienna, spend a day there and take a train from there to Rome first week of September. We would also appreciate any tips on using these lockers. Thanks

Train station lockers in Italy have been closed due to terrorism threats. Last word is that manually-operated left luggage depots were open in Florence station - but this could change obviously with today's state of terrorist threats i guess. Warning - leave plenty of time to retrieve your bags before your train as you may encounter a lengthy line to get it out!
