Stop over in France
We are travelling from the Swiss Alps to Paris and would like to break up the journey somewhere for a night. Places that seem to be about mid point are Dijon, Auralion, Auxere, Toucy, Beaune. We'd like a small quaint french town with nice cafes to have breakfast before heading on to Paris. These places may be huge a they show up on google maps so alternative suggestions gratefully received!

I second Beaune - really pretty village, excellent restaurant choices, atmospheric wine tasting in the Marche aux Vins, while the Musee de l'Hotel-Dieu and the Hospice de Beaune are worth a visit too.

I also agree with Beaune.. definitely fits your criteria !
I don't know what budget you have for your accommodation, but I once stayed at the Hotel de la Cloche in Beaune in the city center. It was lovely.
