stop over hike mt Rigi

This Thursday I have a 12 hour stopover in Zurich and am looking for a quick and great memorable hike that I could do with public transportation. That leaves me with 9 hours of hiking and transportation. Looking for recommendations especially in the direction towards Lucerne: Mt. Pilatus or Mt. Rigi and how to do them in a quick and great way for a 22 year old. Thanks

Mt Rigi is perfect-- can take the train up and walk down or walk up and take the train down. Pilatus is much steeper.

I took the train to Rigi Kulm -the summit station and walked down to Arth-Goldau -trains back to Zurich or Lucerne -a great easy downhill walk thru cow pastures.

Take train to Lucerne -then a boat to Vitznau and hike or train to Rigi Kulm.

for lots on Swiss trains and Rigi check www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

Engelberg and Mt Titlis is also an easy train ride from Zurich via Lucerne and it is much more dramatic an Alpine resort (Rigi is fairly low altitude - lots of hikes for all degrees of difficulties plus you can ride the famous rotating gondola to Mt Titlis' summit.

Weather forecast for Rigi for Thursday November 3rd:
very cloudy in the morning, more sun in the afternoon. Temperature around 2 degrees below zero (centigrade).

The train ride from Zurich airport to Rigi Kulm lasts 2 hrs OW and costs 118 CHF/pax/RT.
There are tons of hiking possibilities between the different railway and gondola stations of the Rigi mountain,
for example from Rigi Kulm to Rigi Scheidegg or Urmiberg from where you can go down by gondola to Kraebel railway station resp. Brunnen railway station. There is no need to hhike down the whole mountain, but it's possible, of course.
