Stop off at Blenheim

In July we will travel from Bath to Moreton-in-Marsh by train. We are thinking it would be nice to stop off in Oxford on the way and tour Blenheim. Is there any place there to store our lugar for a few hours while we tour the palace?

I'm not sure about storage, but just wanted to point out that Blenheim Palace took us way longer than expected. We stopped by planning to spend a few hours there before taking my sister and her husband back to the airport. We had about 3 hours for the stop, and we didn't even begin to cover everything. Especially if you want to walk the gardens. There is an entire separate area with the butterfly house and maze as well. We had to completely skip the maze and my kids were not happy about that.

You are aware, I presume, that Blenheim is in Woodstock, some eight miles or so north Oxford? You will have to factor in time to travel to Woodstock by bus or taxi.

According to a posting on TripAdvisor last March, Central Backpackers, www.centralbackpackers.co.uk offers luggage storage in Oxford.

If you have the time, it can be done. When we went 2 years ago, you simply took the 20 or 20A bus from the Gloucester Green station--drops you at the entrance. Mind you, it's a pretty good little walk from the entrance off the road to the palace proper, so you might not find this fun if it happens to be raining that day.

Note that from July 18 to August 3 there are no trains from Oxford to Moreton. You get the train from Bath to Oxford, then an excruciatingly slow bus, which will go through Woodstock but won't stop there because it'll be stopping at too many places already.

So you'll need to get off the train, do something (if possible) about your bags, get the S3/S3A (as the 20/20A's now been rechristened) to Woodstock, get it back again to Oxford station then get the rail replacement bus to Moreton. At least 2.5 hours Oxford-Woodstock-Oxford return (allowing for waiting time), plus the time to get on to Moreton (at least an hour). Plus of course the time to appreciate to the full all that Blenheim has to offer

Backpackers imply on their site they accept bags only from registered guests. I've no idea if this is true, but you should email them - and it would be helpful if you published their reply.
