Stop in Southern France

My husband and I will be traveling from Luzern, Switzerland to Barcelona by car in May and would like suggestions on a quaint small Provence town to spend a couple of days in route. We would like to take in a
vineyard tour if possible.

You could stay in the Gigondas region, where there are a number of excellent wineries to visit: Gigondas itself, Vacquéras, Beaume-de-Venise, and more. The village of Seguret is charming and would make a good base.

If you would prefer to be nearer the cost, the Cassis/Bandol region might fit the bill.

Thanks Underhill for the info on Seguret and the Gigondas region. Do you have a recommendation for lodging, three or four star in the area.

You might consider the Hostellerie de Crillon le Brave, in that general area, which is what I would consider a 4*. It's a member of the Relais et Châteaux group and very pleasant; you can check the hotel out on that web site.

Not too sure whether this is of help but i went to provence last spring and totally enjoy my stay in this town St Remy's ...small little town but with fabulous hotels and restaurants...

I stayed at L hotel which was a joint venture between France and Japan..delightful...U could check out the website www.hotelphoto.com

For restaurant recommendations, I went to Goussail and Alan Duc...fabulous

In Gigandas is the wonderful " Les Florets." It was a few years ago, so I don't have the address handy

Crillon is one of my favs but because of price stay only a day or two day's isay'recommondation is the Atelier des Images in St Remy also expensive, but unusual Gigandas is smaller. Restos in Seguret that I like are "NMesclun"and "comtat de Table"(sp?0 but never stayed here was only for lunch.

If you are still looking for a place to stop over in Provence I can suggest St. Saturnin d'Apt, a beautiful little village just off the beaten track - and I know a fantastic B&B there!!

If you are not American I apologise, but if you are, I'm sure you will manage to find even Cannes quaint!

I don't believe Seguret has lodging -- I've been there twice and neither time have I seen the slightest hint of a reasonable place to stay in town. It's best for a one hour visit, but a darling town. Very tricky to find though, almost like Brigadoon... I wish I could give you directions but each time I've just stumbled upon it.

Gigondas and Bandol would be my recommendations as well. We were able to find a very nice wine tasting room in Gigondas, though I felt the coastal area around Bandol offered more lodging possibilities, maybe around Six Fours.

hlphilip, "La Table Du Comtat" is also a hotel in Seguret. I prefer the food At Mesclun, but La table's terrace has a beautiful view also.
