Stop between Paris and Amsterdam that isn't Bruges or Brussels?

Hello all,

We will be traveling between Paris and Amsterdam by train, and we are looking for a town to stop in for 2 or 3 days. We have spent time in Brussels and Bruges which we enjoyed, but want to see something new. We don't mind even if we have to go out of the way a bit. Perhaps Luxembourg City or someplace else that is your favorite. Thanks!

Antwerp and Lille are possibilities.

Luxembourg City was not my favorite. The city is worth a stop and a look, but don't expect a gem. The countryside and little towns of tiny Luxembourg are gorgeous (e.g. Vianden), though, and Luxembourg City makes a good base for day trips. If you are interested in World War II history, you might find the museum in Diekirch interesting - it focuses on the Battle of the Bulge. And the US military cemetery in Hamm right outside of Luxembourg CIty is moving. Most of those buried there died at the Battle of the Bulge. General Patton is also buried there in a prominent plae.

Maastricht maybe? Or Aachen perhaps.

Ghent is charming if you haven;t seen it.

Aachen would get my vote if it's not too far away from your intended travel route.

we loved Lille-there's the old town to explore, very friendly helpful people as well.
