Stomping Grapes in Italy?

My 15 year old daughter has asked if there is anywhere in Italy that she can stomp grapes with her feet, like Lucy and Ethel on 'I Love Lucy'. I know it sounds silly, but she has put this on her 'things to do before I die' list. Along with attend Oxford College and get married and have kids...so anyway, I just thought I'd throw it out there. We are off to Italy for three weeks this summer and thought I'd try to find out if anyone else has done this or knows if it is even possible! Thanks!!

Gently inform your daughter that people no longer stomp grapes with their feet in Italy. In fact, I'm not sure they still did even back when the Lucy episode was filmed.

Wine industry is highly mechanised. Also public health and hygiene implication of grape stomping is recognised.

Hugh Hefner's girlfriends did it in CA on The Girls Next Door. If being Hef's girlfriend is also on the list (tell her to hurry), she may get to do it also.

It's done in Spain:

vjpblovesitaly - you make me laugh! :)

Thanks to all for your replies. I had a feeling we wasn't possible but thought I'd check anyway.

WillTravel - I will check the link but don't thing we will be flying to Spain just for 'this'. Thanks!!

Looks like you can do it in Italy too, at least occasionally:

I did it in Sicily (where we lived) in 1977. It really wasn't very enjoyable--much rather drink than stomp! :)

thanks all for your responses. Looks like I may just have to go to Costco and get a flat of grapes so she can stomp them at home!

We saw it done at http://www.sorrentoinfo.com/en/27/3/...-festival.html

my sister and I had a blast here in 2007.

You can google "pigiatura tradizionale dell'uva". Perhaps you can find a festival, which is your best bet.

There are apparently quite a few wineries in the US that feature grape stomping now

That was a classic Lucy episode--almost as memorable as the Vitameatavegimen ad

So your daughter can complete her list -they have a grape stomp every year at Festa Italiana in Seattle -- never seen it done in Italy.
