Stockholm Card

Hi all, we will be in Stockholm next month for 3+ days. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Stockholm Card granting access to museums, transport et al and would you recommend it for short-time travelers like us (2 pax). Is it a one-time good deal?

Thanks for any recommendations you might have..

I would check the prices of the museums you want to see in two days and the boat tour, and figure out if the pass is really worthwhile. The Skansen could take an entire day if you are interested in rural architecture. And one day would definitely be covered by the Skansen and the Vasa museum. Walking through the old town is free, and it could include a visit (paid) to the Royal Armory. My feeling is that one must really rush from one venue to the other to make the pass worthwhile.

Hi,

If you intend to visit, let's say, 4 - 5 museums, and need to use public transport, let's say two rides a day, it could turn out to be a good deal. If you just want to visit a couple of sights with admission fees and love walking (Stockholm is quite small and walkable) you might find it not worth the money. Some price comparisons:

Stockholm Card 625 SEK 72 hours

Public transport: 8 rides (prepurchased tickets) 180 SEK or 72 hours ticket with unlimited travel 200 SEK

Sightseeing tour (boat) which is free with the Stockholm Card 140 SEK
Hop-on Hop-off boat: 100 SEK

Admissions: Vasa Museum 110 SEK, Skansen 120 SEK

I don't know your age but it is good to know that if you are retired you will get a discount on most tickets in Stockholm (public transport, museums). That will make the Stockholm Card even more expensive in comparison to if you pay for each sight.

Hope you will get a nice stay in Stockholm!

Thanks to you both for your quick and useful responses. Since I'm 74 and retird, doesn't look like the stockholm card is for us. Thanks again, replies like yours really add value to the Fodor site!

One tip: If you do decide to visit Skansen on the Stockholm Card, save it for the very last few minutes of your card's remaining time. Walk in say 15-20 minutes before the card expires, then, once inside, take your time seeing everything that Skansen offers. In this way, you can stretch your card's 24, 48 or 72 hours by another 2 hours or so.
