Stockholm - Arlanda Express advanced purchase tickets

We're arriving late evening at Arlanda and have pre-booked return tickets on the Arlanda Express website to save time/hassle. Instead of a printable ticket we were given the option to either get an SMS or somehow have the ticket associated with the payment card we used - we chose the latter. I'm not completely clear how this works in practice - do we just get on the train and have our payment card scanned by a ticket inpector? Is there any requirment to go through a barrier or "validate" a ticket prior to getting on the train (if so, how?). Sorry for these possibly naive questions but this is the first time I've come across this arrangement.

We went through this process last summer. But we purchased the tickets upon arrival. I don't remember validating the ticket, nor being asked for anything by an inspector on the train.

I did send two questions to:

... in advance of our trip and in both cases received a helpful response the next morning.

I had the confirmation sent to my iphone by SMS and I just showed the inspector the SMS message. That was it. Most people seemed to do it this way. I expect all you have to do is show the payment card. There is nothing to be validated before getting on the train, the inspector will ask to see your credentials.

You can charge your phone on the train so having things sent to your iphone is very useful.

OK thanks. I dont have such a thing as an iPhone so hope we'll be alright with the credit card and a copy of the booking email.

We bought our tickets from a machine on arrival.

Just back from Stockholm and all was well on the Atlanda Express! No gates / barriers as mentioned above. We just got on the first available train and showed our credit card to the ticket inspector on board, who swiped it in her card reader to confirm we'd pre-booked. It's an expensive, but incredibly quick and stress free, way to get from the airport into central Stockholm.

Thanks for reporting back. I misplaced five tickets for our Stockholm-Oslo train ride. I almost cried when the inspector asked for them and I couldn't find them - I had had them on the platform before boarding. The guy just smiled and said "No problem - I know who you are."

Swedes are sweeties.
