Transportation from Madrid Airport to Opera station
As part of a multi-city European trip, DH and 18 yo DD will arrive in Madrid via Lufthansa from Munich on a Sat night. I'm having trouble finding recent posts about transportation from the airport to the Opera station which is very near their accommodations. I did see one post about a 'yellow bus' for €5 each but not where to pick that up, if tickets are purchased online, etc. I can see how they can take the train with multiple changes but am not sure of the cost. It looks to be in Zone A which implies a single ticket for each of them would do the trick. Is that the case? Even still, I'm a bit hesitant to have them go that route anyway due to the multiple changes and the time of night. I did find 5+ year older posts about taxis and cost but nothing in the last year or so to gauge if that will be worthwhile given the time of night. Thanks in advance for any additional info you can supply to help us get this figured out.

For 2 people late at night, I'd do a taxi, also. I stay in a hotel near that stop and I've taken an airport group shuttle van and that worked ok. I used Aerocity http://www.aerocity.com/en/
They charge 31 euro for express service if you reserve for 1-3 people (31 for all people). They have a desk at the airport.
I didn't know they had a 30 euro flat taxi rate in Madrid, that's news to me. Maybe it's new since I last went, I didn't have a flat rate when I went to the airport from the city. But if there is a flat rate, I wouldn't do anything else for more thna one person.

Perfect! Thanks for providing the taxi rate info. That does sound like the best way under the circumstances. While not especially late by Spain standards, their flight is scheduled to land at 9:45 pm so navigating an unknown metro system is not ideal, especially for 2 that have no sense of direction!

The flat rate to central Madrid has been in effect since 2014.
For areas long way outside then central Mad.and short rides from the airport , taximeter is still used.
I was chatting with the taxi
driver on my way to the airport in April and he
explained how it works.

If you land at 9:45 pm, then you should be just in time for dinner in Madrid ;-) Or perhaps a glass and a bite in close by Café de Oriente, just in front of the Royal palace:

Or Mercado San Miguel food market. We frequented this place several times during our five days in Madrid. So many tasty eats.
