Stirling / Loch Lomond / Oban / Isle of Mull
Hi everyone
We are travelling to Scotland in August and as part of our trip we are doing a photography tour on the Isle of Mull. Between leaving Edinburgh and arriving on Mull, we have either 3 or 4 full days. I defiinitely want to go to Stirling but not sure how much time to allow there. Also want to see Glencoe / Loch Lomond. I am at the start of planning for this section of our trip so would appreciate any advice regarding scenic routes and places to visit. We are interested in history, photography, short walks, old towns. Also, is the Isle of Mull big enough to spend more than a day on? Our photography tour will take up pretty much the whole day and visits Tobermory and other photographic locations on the island. Id appreciate any advice as I have never been to this area before.

In/Near Stirling: Allow about 2 or 2.5 hours for Stirling Castle. Maybe an hour for Doune Castle. An hour+ for Inchmahome Priory/Lake of Menteith (you take a boat out so it could take as much as 2 hours).
Those are the musts - then there are lots of lochs/waterfalls/view points. So about 1.5 days for Stirling/Callander area. Lots more to see on the general route to Oban/the ferry. Loch Lomond, Kilchurn Castle, Inveraray, etc.

Absolutely, it is a very large island, and most of the roads are single track so travel takes time. Plus - one needs time for Iona and Staffa (neither should be missed)

You can definitely spend more than a day on Mull! My nephews and I spent three days and wished we had more time. Torsay Castle (though I think someone of fodors mentioned recently that it is now closed), Duarte Castle, Tobermory town, lots of little hamlets and fields of sheep, cows, horses, etc. Iona is worth a full day or more. The day we went out to Staffa was one of those perfect summer days clear blue sky, dark blue water and just enough breeze to keep the temps cool.
In early July we saw lots of puffins almost near enough to touch. They nest in burrows at the edge of the cliffs and we saw lots of them coming in and out with fish for their babies.
