still trying to decide: stockholm/oslo or prague/krakow

Still can't decide where to go so we're looking at exchange rates. It is my understanding
that Stockholm and Oslo are extremely expensive countries to travel in, but the rates
seem favorable at this point in time. In contrast the rates in Prague/Krakow look high
and not as favorable. Typically, Prague and Krakow are good values but after looking at the rates today, they are not as favorable as Stock/Oslo. Although these are two distintly different trips, and we would love to do both trips in these 2or 3 years, does anyone have a strong opinion or insight as to which would be more advantageous at this time? We typically travel in early June and anything can happen between now and then of course. But I'd love to hear any thoughts! Thanks so much!

Hi, dandygirl -

Perhaps someone else can chime in here, but I don't think the exchange rate is the key issue. Rather, I think it is the cost of lodging and food (and admission tickets) that drives the difference in the expense of traveling to these areas.

Hope that helps!

We've never traveled to Scandinavia so it's probably not fair for me to make suggestions. However, one of our alltime favorite trips was to Prague, Vienna and Budapest. We would love to visit Poland and Krakow is a wonderful city. I can't say enough good about Prague. It is incredible.

I think kja is correct about the exchange rates. No matter how the US dollar stacks up to the currency of any country, what matters are the prices charged for food, lodging, entertainment, etc. We would return to Prague in a heartbeat. I have a file on Prague I compiled when planning our trip. It's a few years old, but I'd be happy to send it to you if you're interested. Just e-mail me.

We expected Stockholm to be extremely expensive but we didn't find it so. Prague did seem a very good value. We visited both this past December. We live in Switzerland, so lots of places seem cheap in comparison I guess. Definitely found Stockholm more reasonable than Zurich.

I loved both Prague and Stockholm if you wanted a vote. For summer I think I would choose Stockholm though because I hear Prague can be horribly crowded. Between the 2, if I had to pick one this minute to return to, I guess I would say Stockholm but we had less time there...

Either way, you will have a great trip.

I have only been to Stockholm - and loved it.
