Still to do find...SHOES
 

Leaving in less than eight weeks and need help with advise with walking sandles. We will be doing lots of walking and want comfort over looks. Any suggestions for make would be appreciated.

Josef Seibel hands down.... or should that be feet down??

If you put shoes sandals (not sandles) into the search function, you will find stacks of of threads and information on the appropriate footwear.

Since shoes are so personal and no one brand is better than the other, I suggest you head down to a store that carries Mephisto, Ecco, Cole Haan, Clarks, etc. and try them on. It's really the only way to find what feels most comfortable on <b>your</b> foot.

I have found some good suggestions from prior threads on this topic, but they are basically the same -- people recommend what they like, and you'll find about six brands being mentioned. I hate Josef Seibel, for example, so they are not for everyone. I find them extremely uncomfortable (maybe it was the 1-2 styles I tried on, but I hated them). I like Ecco.

But I really think you should just go to a store and look at them and try them on.

When I want comfortable shoes, I look under the bed.

It's risky to use new shoes on a holiday where you expect to walk a lot.

I got succored in to purchasing Doc Martins on peoples enthusiastic recommendations. Felt good enough to wear for about an hour then I found that the toe-box didn't make room for my high arch... man they hurt. Note to self- get shoe trees and try the acohol trick.
Can't return them to Zappo's...wore them outside, scratched the sole. That's just plain tacky to try to get a refund.
So? Go to an expensive store, try them all on...

I also don't fit well in the wider type, eccos etc. Try Rockports and they are on sale now! They are very comfy and look pretty good too.

Josef Seibels are my absolute favorite but have had good luck with Ecco as well.

I love Naot! I hate Joseph Siebel and Mephisto (don't fit me right) and Ecco (expensive and make my knees hurt after a lot of walking). Have had both good and bad pairs of Geox, Munro, Rockport and Clarkes.

I was just at the Nordstrom pre-season sale this morning and they had LOTS of things that looked comfortable, would work, both sandals, loafers and even a type of Merrill that isn't a white tennis shoe.

For 2 years now I've spent a month each in nothing but my Keen Bali's (a slide sort of shoe....) traipsing all over a Greek isle. Hiking, walking the alleys, cute enough for night, they can rough it and still clean up nicely. And they conform to your foot quickly, no break in really, and DON'T slide OFF!!!!
I have 'dancers' feet', wide, w/ bunions from years of dance. Nothing fits me comfortably - except for my Keens. I dread winter - too cold for this particular pair (which I now own 3 of, periwinkle, purple and green...)!

I agree with the comment about Nordstroms. Their stufff is a little more expensive but you can always return anything even if you've worn them.

I bought a pair of shoes at Nordstrom that hurt so bad I could barely walk in them - even tho they felt wonderful in the store. They didn't even hesitate to allow me to exchange for a better (comfortable) pair.

Suzi, Please share the shoe tree/alchohol trick! I have several pairs I need to comfort-ize.

Don't travel with new shoes, that's my best tip. Whatever you buy new... or find in your own closet should be tried &amp; true.

well... my friend Annie (dancer's feet just like mentioned above) drenches the shoe in rubbing alcohol and either wears them until they dry and have conformed to her irregularities or puts the shoe trees in the wet shoes and makes them wider.

I have to laugh at my initial post - succored? I meant suckered... LOL...

I too have extremely wide feet at the toe box and I fear I have a bunion brewing. I bought this pair for our last trip and walked for hours in blissful comfort:

Anyway, I have Reynaud's syndrome (icicle toes) and they were perfect for the cold days as well as the hot days. I wore them with socks when it was cold and never had a problem.

I found a beautiful pair of Cole Hahn/Nike sandals in silver at Neiman marcus for $160, then saw them at my local Marshall's for $59. They are officially my 'travel sandals'. They look very nice and are so comfortable. I just wore them last week in Washington DC to break them in.

i like my ecco and my pals love their merrill (both available in most macy's in USA).
