Stellarossa: Here's one for you Francophiles . .

Check this website out, it's about a best-selling book in France that alleges there was no plane crash at the Pentagon on Spetember 11th. I truly do dislike the French.<BR><BR>http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/wor...00/1907955.stm

xxxxxx Apr 2nd, 2002 11:39 PM

Dear Tony<BR> not that your question has much to do about travel but I saw on the internet some photos regarding the Pentagon disaster, they were taken just after it was hit and are very clear. If the building was hit by a Boeing 757 how come so little damage was done and how come their are no parts of that aircraft? When a plane hits a low building like the Pentagon one should see parts of the aircraft among the rubble, if you want to see these images reply and I will send you the web address. I can tell you that I showed them to a military expert and an engineer and they are very puzzled....

Tony Hughes Apr 2nd, 2002 11:41 PM

So why hide behind a fake name? What happened to the people killed on the airplane? How do you know what a building looks like after a plane has hit it?

Gerard Apr 2nd, 2002 11:48 PM

Dear Tony<BR> I think that you did not click on the link of the website(Hunt the Boeing)that you asked to check out,I did and I am now convinced that no aircraft hit the Pentagon, take a look and make a comment http://www.asile.org/citoyens/numero...erreurs_en.htm

Tony Hughes Apr 2nd, 2002 11:55 PM

I did as a matter of fact AND it takes a lot more than a few pics for me to change my mind.

Jean Apr 2nd, 2002 11:57 PM

You dislike the French because they have the courage to denounce a matter that you don't even face? I doubt that the author is antiamerican but simply has come out with a legitimate question. What happened to the aircraft? Where are the remains? I am sure that if it had happened in France he would have raised the same question. I am sure also that in the next weeks the book will be a best seller in the USA as well (if they allow it to be released)

Tony Hughes Apr 2nd, 2002 11:59 PM

dislike 'em for a lot of reasons, mate.

Gerard Apr 3rd, 2002 12:01 AM

So Tony what are you saying? I believe what I am told? I have faith in my governors, whatever I see with my own eyes doesn't count? The pictures are clear, where is the aircraft?

racist Apr 3rd, 2002 12:06 AM

Yes, your racism is showing again Tony.<BR>Not sure race is relevant to this issue. Someone, who happens to be French, is questioning events. Many people are intrigued. Why should this be a platform for you to remind the forum of your personal racism towards the French?

Oh my God Apr 3rd, 2002 12:08 AM

Now you give me the shivers, I saw the suggested pics and my word am I confused?

tops Apr 3rd, 2002 12:35 AM

top of the tops

clairobscur Apr 3rd, 2002 12:38 AM

There's a very interesting site adressing urban legends and other fallacies which is www.snopes2.com. They've a recent article about the "no plane crashed on the pentagon" theory. They adress some of the issues raised (in particular the pictures, but I didn't pay that much attention). So perhaps confused people like the previous poster could check this site.

HRH SBP Apr 3rd, 2002 12:58 AM

I am from DC originally.<BR><BR>a coworker WITNESSED the plane going in. he was on 395 going in to work.<BR><BR>I have seen the Pentagon personally, a week later. I was here in Europe when it happened.<BR><BR>wow, it took the Holocause deniers HOW many years to come up with their cockamamie theories? now, it's only taken 6 months for the crash deniers. <BR><BR>what a weird, weird world. you think there are weirdos on fodors? get out there and look around! yikes!!<BR><BR>SBP

Tony Hughes Apr 3rd, 2002 01:17 AM

Well said HRH. <BR><BR>My racism is showing again? Please elaborate. I dont like the French - that's racism, yeah? What exact race would I be hating then (as 'french' is not a race, dumbo)?<BR><BR>There are 2 still on that website - nothing to say they are sequential or anything. So you can believe there was no plane crash (although the families of those on board may wish to speak to you).

Tes Apr 3rd, 2002 02:37 AM

Tony shut up, I am starting to think that you are French. How were your escargots at lunch?

racist Apr 3rd, 2002 04:46 AM

Dictionary excerpt:<BR><BR>race <BR>n. <BR>-A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics. <BR>-A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race. <BR>-A genealogical line; a lineage. <BR>Humans considered as a group. <BR>Biology. <BR>-An interbreeding, usually geographically isolated population of organisms differing from other populations of the same species in the frequency of hereditary traits. A race that has been given formal taxonomic recognition is known as a subspecies. <BR>-A breed or strain, as of domestic animals. <BR>-A distinguishing or characteristic quality, such as the flavor of a wine. <BR><BR><BR>Tony<BR><BR>I think if you consider how the term Racism is actually used you will appreciate it's not all about biology.<BR><BR>And YES to state categorically that you dont like the French IS racism, unless you have actually met ALL of them?<BR><BR>I personally find your statement no different to saying you dislike all gays or dislike all blacks or dislike all Scots. <BR><BR>Your pointer to the website is interesting, but its sad to use it as a platform to spout personal and racist comments about one or other nationality.<BR><BR>

FAO Tony Apr 3rd, 2002 04:47 AM

Further:<BR><BR>Usage Note: The notion of race is nearly as problematic from a scientific point of view as it is from a social one. European physical anthropologists of the 17th and 18th centuries proposed various systems of racial classifications based on such observable characteristics as skin color, hair type, body proportions, and skull measurements, essentially codifying the perceived differences among broad geographic populations of humans. The traditional terms for these populationsCaucasoid (or Caucasian), Mongoloid, Negroid, and in some systems Australoidare now controversial in both technical and nontechnical usage, and in some cases they may well be considered offensive. (Caucasian does retain a certain currency in American English, but it is used almost exclusively to mean “white” or “European” rather than “belonging to the Caucasian race,” a group that includes a variety of peoples generally categorized as nonwhite.) The biological aspect of race is described today not in observable physical features but rather in such genetic characteristics as blood groups and metabolic processes, and the groupings indicated by these factors seldom coincide very neatly with those put forward by earlier physical anthropologists. Citing this and other pointssuch as the fact that a person who is considered black in one society might be nonblack in anothermany cultural anthropologists now consider race to be more a social or mental construct than an objective biological fact.

Let's not Apr 3rd, 2002 04:49 AM

Disliking the French because of that book, or because of a few obnoxious people, would be like disliking the Scots because of Stellarossa.

Tony Hughes Apr 3rd, 2002 05:01 AM

Geezo, you lot are still whining about this? <BR><BR>So who is it i hate? The black french, the ones with moustaches (men and women), the north african-french, the onion sellers, the whites, anyone with a french accent? Or do I just hate 'em all?<BR><BR>I didnt actually say why I disliked the french - all of you assume it's from one incident or with meeting, like, 3 people. And as for quoting me crap from a dictionary, I've got two words for you - you proved my point. <BR><BR>

Just Apr 3rd, 2002 05:15 AM

well, don't keep us all guessing and assuming, just why do you so dislike or hate the French? You've implied everyone is wrong so why don't you set us straight?

colleen Apr 3rd, 2002 05:18 AM

I was planning a trip to Scotland, but after hearing Tony's surly rants on one thread after another, I am switching to Ireland.

what Apr 3rd, 2002 05:41 AM

Weak minds, no matter where they live or what their origins are, are what I dislike. THINK, people, THINK. It's good for you, keeps away Alzheimers. Though how people who buy into these silly things make it to old age is another question.

but on the other hand Apr 3rd, 2002 05:42 AM

Listen to Sheila instead. You'll switch back to Scotland. Maybe he's the exception.

Randy Malpaso Apr 3rd, 2002 05:45 AM

you really all are a bunch of whining maggots, arent you? constantly bleating about how someone is a racist or anything else you can think of. Keep it up - it's amusing.

Jason Apr 3rd, 2002 05:54 AM

Sheila has her own problems with racism. She doesn't think much of the U.S., either. What's with the Scots here lately, anyway?

carol Apr 3rd, 2002 06:06 AM

No, Sheila is most certainly not a racist, and she has made many friends from the USA who have a lot of respect and affection for her. She is direct, truthful, and sometimes outspoken about criticizing policies, attitudes and cultural practices that she dislikes anywhere, including in the US and the UK (and even in Scotland).

Sheila Apr 3rd, 2002 06:12 AM

Hey! How did I end up in here?<BR><BR>Jason, on what basis do you say I don't think much of the US? When did I ever say that? Or anything like that?<BR><BR>And, why am I a racist? I've been a member of anti-racist organisations here, all my adult life.<BR><BR>I would also point out that this thread started, effectively being support of the US against conspiratorial rantings. Even if I wouldn't have written off the entire French nation on the back of it.<BR><BR>(They do play dirty rugby tho')

colleen Apr 3rd, 2002 06:33 AM

It's not Tony's original point I disagree with, but his habit of turning ugly very fast when anyone disagrees with him. <BR>I appreciate someone who remains civil and rational, no matter how heated the disagreement, like Capo or Bob or even Rex. John G. for instance, may get a bit snippy, but at least he's witty, and doesn't morph into the Hulk like Tony.

Laura Apr 3rd, 2002 06:35 AM

No, Sheila is not a racist. She is a wonderful human being with a heart of gold.

Rhonda Apr 3rd, 2002 06:46 AM

Why did Tony title his post "Here's one for you Francophiles"?<BR>Are we all supposed to join him in hating the French after reading about this book? That's absurd!<BR>Consider some of the asinine best-sellers and widely popular TV shows in the U.S. (Jerry Springer, etc.)! I'd hate to be judged by foreigners on those!

mimi taylor Apr 3rd, 2002 07:26 AM

I dont usually add to a trash thread like this, as it is not funny, but I did want to add especially to Jason, that Sheila is one of the first persons I met at Fodors, and many who know her, know that she embraces people of all races, countries into her home. She made a statement once, that someone completely distorted. So to quote someone, "real friends are those when you have made a fool of yourself, don't feel you,ve done a permenant job."<BR>I hpoe not

Steve Mueller Apr 3rd, 2002 07:31 AM

<BR>So let me get this straight. Anyone that believes a commercial aircraft really did impact the Pentagon is a racist?

KSO Apr 3rd, 2002 07:33 AM

Well,dear,Tony-<BR>I personally do not think much of any of this. There are always Conspiracy Theories by crackpots who have a vague idea of how to write and market some drivel, because it is published, does NOT make it so.There being enough people who actually witnessed the plane crashes, that lost loved ones in those plane crashes,I tend to believe the truth.<BR>But, I would not blame the French. They are just the latest in a history of this sort of thing, even on these boards, someone will post a ridiculous opinion and you will find that thread going on for days and days with all the posters who agree .<BR>Better, just try not to post the damn url so you can better spread the thing all over the internet, just in case someone might not have read it.<BR>Things like this come along all the time, the less attention they get, the quicker they die.<BR>Tony, you should know better.Or is this just to stir things up on a boring day, because you should know by now that no one is going to agree with you!<BR><BR>Re" calling anyone on here RACIST.<BR>I personally don't know anyone on these boards, so while I might say that this one writes in an ignorant fashion,or this one is witty and interesting, I cannot say if anyone has certain beliefs..<BR>So unless you really do know Sheila or anyone else on these forums, I would keep the insults general.<BR>For all we know, someone out there is sitting in a white hood at the computer!

kso Apr 3rd, 2002 07:35 AM

SORRY-hit the wrong key!!!!!!<BR><BR>As I was saying, for all we know someone is sitting out there in a white hood at their computer and writing all kinds of loving and kind things..just because you do not agree with someone or don't like what they post, gives you NO right to call them Racist..It is actually a Racist thing to do that!

Jean LaGrout Apr 3rd, 2002 07:41 AM

Tony, I love you anyway.

Beanie Apr 3rd, 2002 09:18 AM

KSO, I don't believe Tony is a racist. <BR>He is a bigot.<BR>At least, according to his statements (which may or may not be related to his actual beliefs, according to you). <BR><BR>But I can't call Tony a racist OR a bigot, because you say that would make ME a racist (or a bigot). So I won't call him that. <BR><BR>It's true that NO ONE likes to be called a racist, not even KKK members. They will insist they are not racists. <BR><BR>So I agree, the word is too inflammatory to use on this board without starting a riot. Let's NEVER say racist again. <BR><BR>If I were French, Tony would spit in my eye, but I love him too. Group hug!<BR><BR>

loa Apr 3rd, 2002 09:34 AM

Anyone who makes a statement about disliking everyone in a group because of the actions of one or even of 10,000 of its members, clearly not having met every member of that group, is some kind of a ---ist, or at the very least, just a pot-stirring troll.

Tony Hughes Apr 3rd, 2002 12:26 PM

I'm amazed at how angry some people get over the French (or is it me people get angry over?). <BR><BR>Sheila, I'm sorry, mate, you shouldn't have been dragged down into the gutter alongside me, you're a decent person and all round good egg.<BR><BR>I dont hate French people, more the thought of French people. They probably wouldn't like me much , either (so much for that Auld Alliance, Sheila, huh?).<BR><BR>I love you all, hehe . . .

John G Apr 3rd, 2002 01:14 PM

My stepmother, who is a high-level executive with Lockhead, was in the Pentagon on Sept. 11 for a meeting. Believe me, a plane crashed into the building. She is still seeing a therapist because of the trauma this disaster has caused to her psyche. Also, where is the famed TV commentator, the woman who was always on Larry King Live, who was married to the Solicitor General of the US? (I can't think of her name right now.) She was on the flight that crashed into the Pentagon. I suppose she is hiding in Mexico with Elvis???????

Sheila Apr 3rd, 2002 01:21 PM

Hey, I KNOW I'm a decent person by comparison with you, Tony!!<BR><BR>Fear not; I can handle it:)<BR><BR>Now, have you thought about seeing a therapist about this irrational dislike of the people who invented cooking?
