Steigenberger Frankfurterhof

I've been booked into this hotel by people arranging my tour and it gets some great reviews at various web sites but some of the reviews on tripadvisor make it sound dreadful. A confusing mix.

Has anyone stayed here recently???

The hotel is, like most Steigenbergers, rather conservative and geared toward the preferences of older people. However, standard is high and location is excellent. Used to be the "grande olde dame" among Frankfurt's hotels. I would rate it 4.5 stars.

Thanks, Echnaton. Back in 2007, the New York Times said it was at the top of Frankfurt hotels, and recently renovated. Three years ago isn't so bad. :-)

A couple years ago, I stayed there because the airport Sheraton was getting so expensive. When I registered at the hotel, I was told I had been upgraded to (can't remember term exactly) a deluxe room. Well, the room was small, dark, and the mattress uncomfortable. From then on, I have stayed at the Sheraton in either a superior or club room. The Sheraton has large, nicely decorated, and wonderfully comfortable bedding.

whoops - large, nicely decorated rooms and comfy bedding - The Steingenberger did have a great gourmet restaurant. The food was excellent. The forks, knives, and spoons were the most awkward to use that I have ever encountered - looked good but the skinnny "handles" were miserable to use.
