I mentioned Paris because we always spend a few days there before we go down to Provence. When we get to Provence, we eat all the great Mediterraean food, but I am sure I have seen steak and frites on menus.

Thanks for all your advice, appreciate it. Yes, yes we have heard the horse meat story's. We would not normally order steak in France as we have done and never been impressed. Saying that my DH is under the impression that "the" perfect steak and fites will be found in one of the many charming little villages of the Luberon. Stephan G and PBProvence, thanks for the recommendations and for whoever mentioned the chains and MacDonalds well I just can't imagine doing either in France (or here in Canada) ... but hey, whatever floats your boat.

I did want to mention a restaurant in Bonnieux that specializes in grilled meat-- called Le Bleu de Toi. It is located on the Place Gambetta, the main market square in Bonnieux, and is open during the tourist season. They seem to do a very good business.
The restaurant is run by a Belgian couple. We keep meaning to eat there, as we have heard good things about it. (We also feel that we can get very good meat in the USA and prefer to eat differently when in Provence.) Here's some info about the restaurant (in French): http://www.miniplan-luberon.com/GB-bleu-de-toi.asp Kathy |
In my local LeClerc and SuperU here in France, horse meat is notably cheaper (upto 1/2) than steak, and is very red to look at thanks to extra dye.
Of course there is nothing wrong with horse meat as there is nothing wrong with cat meat, dog meat, snake and such. It depends on what you are used to. |
