stays in a castle

We are taking our 13 year old granddaughter to Scotland next year and she wants to spend Christmas Eve in a castle in Scotland. Does anyone have a recommendation for such a stay? Looking on the internet, it seems that many of the castle hotels are not open at that time of year.

My daughter got married at Dalhousie Castle outside Edinbugh, and it was good, though this was some years ago.

If your budget could stand it, Roxburghe Castle looks great in photos.

We took our grandson to Borthwick Castle, not far from Edinburgh. I would recommend it.

Check that the "castle" is indeed a castle. Many were built in the 19th century as country lodges for rich people. Both the above were built as proper castles

Go to www.celticcastles.com. It's a great starting point for places to stay in Scotland.

Airth Castle is lovely, but a bit gourmet, maybe.

We are going to Scotland briefly in April, and I would love to stay at Traquair, but we will be staying with friends. Lots cheaper -- even after buying them drink -- but not so picturesque!
