Staying suburbs of Paris, Aulnay-Sous-Bois in Villepinte

I was looking up some things and it says it's about 30 mins away from the eiffel tower and I'm guessing 30-40 mins away from most things in Paris. soooo I was just wondering since I am staying there for three weeks. Is it worth it? easy access to metro there and back? safe enough to stay? safe enough to come back and forth since I want to stay in the evening while in Paris. I am arriving in Paris on the 10th of January by the way. I am staying for free as well since my auntie lives there. Any advice or recommendation so make my trip and life there a little easier?

Why don't you ask your autie how safe it is around where she lives, she ought to know better than us. For example, we don't know how far you'll have to walk to get from the metro stop home and what that area may be like. That's 6 stops past gare du Nord on the RER B. Generally, the suburbs up that way are not exactly charming, shall we say, that place was in the news for those riots and maybe burning cars a few years ago.

No one on here can tell you if there is easy access to the RER B from your auntie's house as we don't know where it is. it's not 30 minutes from the Eiffel Tower, that's stretching it. But the Eiffel Tower is past central Paris from where you are. SNCF says it is 45 minutes just from there to Eiffel Tower on the RER.

It wouldn't be worth it to me, that's for sure.

Sounds like a really bad idea to me. Especially in January - when it gets dark very early. I would want to be much closer to the center - both in terms of safety and travel time.

Definitely ask your aunt about the safety of walking those streets alone late at night.

I'm sure Aulnay-sous-Bois has improved since it was the center of riot activity in 2005, but it's not a particularly pretty place and certainly not a great base for visiting Paris. But if it's your only way to get to that great city, then figure out how to make it work for you. Start by asking your aunt about the neighborhood, safety, logistics of traveling into the city from there, other practicalities. Once you have an idea exactly where you'll be, come back for more suggestions.
