staying in venice

hi everyone

i've heard that you can't drive into the centre of venice, and am looking for a couple of nights accomodation and am assuming it is best to get accomodation on the outskirts???

can anyone recommend good camping/caravan accomodation that's really close to venice?

thanks!!!

You can drive to Venice -- you just cannot drive within Venice. You leave your car at Piazzale Roma, which is within walking distance to everything.

I think you need to tell us a bit more about what you have in mind. Most people would want to stay IN Venice. If you're driving your own car or a rental car, you'd park it at Piazzale Roma. On the other thread you started on the wrong board, you were given a website with campgrounds. There are none really close to Venice.

The island of Lido, quite close to the center of Venice does allow cars.

We stayed IN Venice a couple of years ago.

Although it's generally more expensive in Venice we stayed at the Hotel DoPozzi which was relative cheap and only 3mins from St Marks Square.

I would research parking outside the city. Then take transportation in to the center, and get a hotel there.

Or look into camping accomodations in a nearby town (Padua perhaps?) and take the train in ~1/2 hr each day for sight-seeing.
