Staying in Paris
 

Hi,my husband, 5 yr old daughter and I will be staying in Paris from 3-9 aug. Which area would be a good place to stay for convenience and not too expensive( maybe under 100 euro a night).

weyfarer, you might be better off in an apartment. there are thousands! Do a search here for "paris apartments" and you'll find dozens of recommendations. Also, check out Tripadvisor.com. (Make sure you verify A/C!!! It can be hot in Paris in August and not every place has it!)

A "yes" vote for apartments, especially with a 5 year-old. Try this site: http://www.iloveparisapartments.com I think it'll be tough to find a hotel in Paris under 100 euros - please post if you do find one! Be sure to hit the Jardin des Plantes and its zoo - our daughter (age 6 on her first Paris trip, now 13) maintains that it has the best mint chip ice cream in town, plus, of course, the animals are fun, too!

I'd suggest somewhere in the 5th thru 7th arrondisements as a convenient central location for seeing the sights (you can tell by the last two digits of the hotel address postal code where it is located).

Try www.vrbo.com. (vacation rentals by owner). They have hundreds of apartments.

I've been looking a this apt nr, Parc Monceau, which would be nice for your 5 yr old. And it is in your price range and in a nice area.

Look at Accorhotels.com .
I like to have air conditioning, but that might be pretty tough with your requirement of a triple room and under 100 Euros for a stay that is coming up shortly.

However, some less central locations for various Accor brands (which include Formule 1, Etap, Ibis, Novotel, Mercure, and Sofitel) would work out. For example, the Ibis Paris Berthier Porte de Clichy has a swimming pool and air conditioning, and a triple room for your dates is 55 Euros per night. It also has good reviews on TripAdvisor. I wouldn't consider the location ideal, but it's all a matter of compromise at this point.

For air conditioning, it says "climate controlled rooms", which might not be as good as American-style air conditioning, but probably better than none at all.

I should add - with any option you choose, find out what the bedding for your daughter would be.

Also check out www.bestwestern.com - they often have good deals for families as well.

We had a wonderful two weeks in Paris last year around this time with a 5yo and loooooved Bois de Boulogne which is a gorgeous 25 acre park just 15 minutes from Champs-Elysees.

We only paid 20 something dollars a night and they do have rental cabins there but I do not know the price.

There is a fabulous kids park there so do not miss that.

PS we went every where on the metro which was great fun in and of itself for a child this age.

There are lots of musicians playing and she loved to tip them. She is a country kid who became an expert on the metro by the time we left. ;)

we had a wonderful apt found on internet with a company "welcome2france'.
they have 1 bedroom apt or 2 bedrm which sleeps 5-6 easily. more chocies available and their service were great!

Thank you all for your help. My husband likes Willtravel suggestion of checking out the Accor brand hotels. We have to sacrifice convenience to meet out budget. Thanks all for the suggestions of how to entertain my girl.

Hey weyfarer -- We loved this little apartment and it was in a perfect area just off Montorgueil Ave. It's within walking distance of the Louvre and the river for an easy ride on the Batobus hop-on/off boat. The main street has various cafes and grocery stores and is full of life. It's within your budget too!
