Staying in Lido?
 

I have a reservation at Le Ville del Lido for October.
It is our 1st trip to Venice. Is it a hassle to stay over there? The cost is 204 EUR per day for a 2 bedroom suite, (4 of us) so the price is helpful for our budget.
But as we get closer, I'm wondering if we are making a mistake to be far away from the historical areas.

IMO you are - quite a long commute prohibits going back and forth much - to me the special beauty of Venice is only enhanced at night - you can get hotels in Venice itself for a lot less than 204 euros if budget is your concern. Mobility factor could be justified but not to save money as you could lose so much - IMO only.

It is 204 for the 4 of us, so far I haven't been able to find hotel rooms for 100 euros each couple...still searching trip advisor and venere.

If you were going to New York City for a vacation, would you be just as happy staying in New Jersey or maybe out on Long Island? If not, then I'd reconsider this Lido stay.

I agree that staying on the Lido can really limit ones experience of being in Venice, and that it can be a pain to go back and forth.

Have you thought of renting an apartment? I have found apartments in Venice to be more affordable than hotel rooms.

Add also the cost of a boat fare or pass that would include travel to the Lido in your price sheet - granted though for 2 double rooms for a quality hotel 204 Euro seems good. And probably a whole lot more for the money than a similar sum would buy in Venice proper.

BIG MISTAKE.
THE LIDO will make your trip an entirely different experience, then if you were to stay in Venice proper. I agree with Neopolitan.
I suggest changing your hotel while you are able.
There are so many fabulous things to see and experience in Venice, and if you are restricted by going back and forth to "The Lido" it will cut into your time more then you think.

We've been to Venice several times and usually stay in Venice (Hotel Flora), but the hotel was booked so we stayed in Lido and loved it. It was fun taking the vaperretto to and from town--more than fun really--absolutely gorgeous, and the place we stayed (Villa Stella) was a wonderful and quiet retreat for us and the owners were delightful, and the breakfast was delicious. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. (And if budget was no issue, I'd stay at Ca Maria Adele in a heartbeat--www.camariaadele.it)

One of their apartments, "Giglio", sleeps four persons for 213 euro per night. The location is excellent (Dorsoduro), and the hotel that is renting these apartments is very well-regarded.

I agree with most posters that it would be better if you stay in Venice proper if this is your first trip. We were on a budget when we went last year and stayed at the Hotel Bernardi near the Rialto bridge for less than 100E per night. Location was good (10 min walk to Piazza San Marco) and the room was decent (double bed, attached bath and breakfast).

Hi Patross - We've stayed at Le Ville del Lido several times and will do so again.

We enjoyed the boat ride across the lagoon each day. We had a week's vaporetto pass anyway so that wasn't an extra expense.

We stayed there too and loved it. It was nice and quiet too.

Lido is a good choice -if- you want to do some golfing on your vacation :)

I, personally, prefer to stay in Venice, but then I've never tried the Lido. Friends of ours love staying on Lido, and with the vaporetto pass , it is not nescessarily an addded expense. In fact they just got back on Sunday from an apartment stay in Venice itself and said next time they'd go back to Lido.

So I guess only you can decide what is best for you

And, of course, you have some good hotel suggsetions here, as well.

I too vote for staying in Venice proper. The Lido has cars! Spoils the ambience.
