staying in Leith, Edinburgh

Has anyone stayed in the suburb of Leith when visiting Edinburgh? We are considering taking a small cottage for two nights in May. The cottage appears to be very nice and even has stables (which we won't be using) which makes us think it would be a quiet, safe place.

if you have only 2 nights and wish to see the city you might be better off closer to the center.
Leitih is a bus ride or a long walk ( more than half hour) from the main attractions.

Is it by any chance Claremont Cottage Stables - if so it isn't even in what most people would call Leith but about 3/4 mile to the east

If you see a policeman, don't say
"The Leith police dismisseth us".

He will have heard it before

Or she

It is indeed Claremont Stables, alanRow. Are you familiar with the place? Let me know if you think it would be a good stay.

Don't know it at all but I know the general area. Quite a nice area, just a lot of trundling into & out of town and it is slightly off the beaten track by Edinburgh standards

By trundling, do you mean taking buses in and out? We were thinking that would make more sense than driving our car in. We also thought we might save some by having a washer/dryer and by eating in in the evenings. By the way, we are staying 2 more nights in Portobello, but couldn't get those rooms for all 4 nights. Thanks for your input.

Any excuse not to drive in Edinburgh is a good excuse.

Just that the cottage isn't exactly on the main routes into & out of town so you are going to spend a fair bit of time just going to & from the centre - and in the evening it's likely the bus service will be infrequent.

With only 2 nights I'd be looking for somewhere in the centre of town.

Now if it was a week during the Festivals that would be different

Thanks, alanRow. I will keep looking before I make a decision. I am waiting to hear from two other places, both a bit south but on bus lines, near Craigmillar, I believe.

we stayed in Portobello, it is also about 20 min. by bus to town ( nicer than Leith, though)
