Staying in Florence - Hotel Casci or Alessandra
 

My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy in September and after much research have narrowed down our accomodations in Florence to Hotel Casci (an obvious Fodorite Favorite) and Hotel Alessandra. The location of Alessandra is enticing, but we can't ignore the raves for Casci. And they both rate highly on Trip Advisor... So, I am looking to open up the question to those who have stayed at either one recently. Ironically, an almost identical post was made back in 2002 ( see http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...n-florence.cfm ) but I am looking for some more current opinions.

Can't tell you anything about Alessandra but can I have stayed five times in Hotel Casci and loved it more each time. It has a prime location so I don't know why the location of Alessandra is enticing (where is it?). Casci is right smack in the midst of the city, a block away from the David, 2 blocks from the Duomo, and several from Piazza Signora, etc. The Casci owners are the nicest people you could ever meet, nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are immaculately clean, bathroom is spotless, buffet breakfast is fabulous and large. It is not a fancy hotel and it is actually a small B&B but it is what makes it special. Even though I am sure both are great choices, it is hard to decide!

I have to jump on the Casci bandwagon, too. The location could not be better...I agree with everything Flame123 says above. Plus, you can walk to the train station.

Another vote for the Casci. The location is excellent, but the owners are what really makes this place special. I would definitely stay there again:)

We stayed at the Alessandra in October 2006 and 2008. The location is one of the best. The accomodations and the staff were great.
