Staying at Versailles, questions
 

We are going to France and because of credit card points, we will be staying at Versailles. Needless to say, I have a few quesions...
1. I 'm thinking a taxi shuttle will be the best way to get from CDG to Versailles. I've seen a company called taxi-paris. Any suggestions? The price for the 5 of us looks to be around 90 E.
2. Are there many cafes or restaurants around Versailles?
3. What about transportation around Versaille, is there a bus or is it walkable?
4. What's the best method of transportation into Paris, and about how long will it take?
5. Anything else not to be missed?

I think if you can find a van to take you flat rate for 90 euro, that's pretty good, and I'd do that as that's only 18 euro per person. Sure, you can get there cheaper if you all take the train/metro and transfer a couple times, but I wouldn't.

The easiest way into Paris would be the suburban train RER, however, it goes right from Versailles into Paris for only a few euro.

It's not a small town, though, it's a suburban city with a population of about 100K. I don't know it well, it seems to be mainly residential and some business conventions or dealings. I imagine a city of that size must have a bus system. I don't know the restaurant and cafe situation, although it has to have them, of course. Others who know it better maybe can advise if you say where you are staying.

get a carte musee.good for all paris attractions except eiffel tower.that way you can go to versailles palace more than once.since you will be staying there you might want to visit twice.however for gardens you will still have to pay an extra €4.There are a number of cafes/resturants near versailles staition,there is also a McDonalds.

According to die Bahn, CDG to Versailles is an 82-minute train ride, with one connection:

Take RER B Direction Robinson to St. Michel-Notre Dame
Take RER C Direction Versailles-RG to Versailles-RG

Michelin says it takes 53 minutes to drive, so a taxi or bus would only save a half-hour.

If you buy a Carte Orange transport pass, it will get you from CDG to Versailles plus everywhere in Paris for a week (Mon-Sun) for €25.20 total.

CDG is in Zone 5, so you will need to buy a supplement to get to Zone 4, where your Carte Orange is valid.
