Stay outside of Orvieto or Montepulciano?

Jump to last reply

We are planning a 10-day trip in September. We arrive at FCO on a Wednesday and plan to pick up a car there and head out. We want to spend the first 2 nights at a place that has nice amenities (pool, onsite restaurant) possibly more in the countryside or at least outside of town. After that we will head to Sienna for 3 nights, Florence for 3 nights and finish in Venice for 2.

After much research and input from these boards and others, we have narrowed it down to either a place just outside of Orvieto or one outside of Montepulciano for those first two nights. If we choose Orvieto we would primarily stay in that area for those first two days and then hit Montepulciano and Pienza on our drive to Sienna. If we stay outside Montepulciano, we would have more time in that area but would miss Orvieto. I am so torn and am hoping some outside input will help us make the final decision. Thanks!
