Stay in Stuttgart or surrounding area?

We are going to a Stuttgart vs. Freiburg match on 4/20 with our two sons. The game starts at 3:30. I'm debating if we want to stay right in Stuttgart or if we'd be better off in a smaller city outside (like Tübingen perhaps) and just going into Stuttgart for afternoon/evening. I figure we'll have 2-3 nights and I'm not sure given the fact that we'll be in some other cities, that I want to be in another one for that long. Wondering if anyone has advice on how easy/hard it is to get into and out Stuttgart on a weekend. We will have a car, so that's an option, but I'd rather take a train.

Thanks!

I have stayed in Stuttgart and enjoyed the city. It was Christmas Market time. You can check possible travel connections here:

Thank you Gary. Any suggestions of things within Stuttgart the kids might enjoy?

We were not there with kids but there have been threads on this subject in Tripadvisor. Tripadvisor has a "Stuttgart" forum under its Germany forum.

There is quite a bit in Stuttgart to do with children. How old are they? I live here right now and I also teach children. In fact, my fourth graders are going to try to put together a brochure or poster of things children can do in the Stuttgart area. Right now they have said- soccer (of course!), Killesberg Park and to climb the tower there, the Wilhelma Zoo, Filderado (swim park), TV Tower, Ride the Zacke, Mercedes Benz Museum, hike one of the many trails and play in one of the many parks. I will see what else we can come up with. I really enjoy living here in Stuttgart. It is a pretty city!

Thank you kkukura! They are 11 and almost 8, so right in the realm of your 4th graders. I'll look up your suggestions.
