stay in Positano or Capri
 

We are planning to visit the Amalfi Coast in May 2005. We have decided to rent a villa and are interested in seeing the area but also in "sitting still" long enough to really get a feel for a particular place. This being the case would you recommend staying in Positano and taking a day trip to Capri or staying in Capri with a day trip to Positano or another Amalfi town? I imagine there are pros to both so I'd love to hear some opinions.

It is easier to get to/from Positano. The ferries to Capri stop at about 6:00 PM.

Positano is small, beautiful and outstanding with lots of other towns within a short scenic drive/ bus ride.

Positano- for all the reasons listed above!

Love Positano--lots of nice choices of places to eat and cafes to overlook the scene--Capri is lovely but wouldn't select it for an extended time--hordes of tourists descend on it daily.
