Stay in a Castle in Ireland?

Can anyone recommend castles in Ireland that have accommodations for tourists?

There are a number of castle hotels in Ireland. I suggest you google castle hotels Ireland and narrow your search according to location and price range or what looks interesting to you. Then come back here to request personal recommendations.

Michele at IrelandYes has a complete listing of castle hotels (actually 2 as she has a separate one for "bargain" ones. Go to http://irelandyes.com and scroll down to the index and look for Castle Hotels.

A lot depends on where in Ireland you plan to go. And remember, just because they have the word "castle" in the name it doesn't mean that it is a real genuine authentic Irish castle.

I really liked Ashford Castle which is in Co Mayo about 30 miles from Galway City. Expensive but real class. See details at www.ashfordcastle.ie. Almost as good and convenient to Shannon Airport is Dromoland Castle, which is not quite as ancient. They have a good website at www.dromoland.ie. A few years ago they did not allow non-residents to dine at either but with the recession it may be worthwhile enquiring about going even for a meal, provided you have a deep pocket

I am staying at Clontarf Castle in Dublin and Solis Lough Eske Castle in Donegal during my August trip. Lough Eske looks a little more authentic than Clontarf. Check those out.
