Stay in 1 Place or Multiple
 

We (hubby, wife, and our 26 year old daughter) will spend 12 glorious days visiting our son who is interning and studying abroad in London.

We will arrive Friday, November 21 and depart on Tuesday, December 2. Our son will work and study Monday through Friday a.m. with weekends free.

Should we stay in 1 place (London?) or rent multiple places?

That depends on what places you want to see/do . . . We can't tell you since we have no idea where you want to go.

OR -- do you mean two places IN London? If that is what you are asking - then no, find a place and stay put. But - it is getting awfully late to find an apartment just a month from now.

As a general rule, the best connected place in England for visiting places outside London is London.

That principle certainly doesn't apply to visiting everywhere in Britain. But if you're unfamiliar with the country, and have limited time and no overpowering desire to see a number of things outside London and close to each other, it's unlikely to make much sense moving to a base outside.

But that DOES depend on what you want to see...

there will be quite a few places that you can see by doing day trips from London - Cambridge, Norwich, Oxford, Brighton, even Bath [though that would be better as an over-night] far more than you will probably want to see in 12 days in London.

And you'll want to be in London at the weekend to spend it with your son - unless you used that as an opportunity to get out of the city to do a family weekend somewhere, though your son might want to show you his favourite places in London.

My instinct on this one would be to rent an apartment for the whole of your stay in London; if you did an overnight away, it probably wouldn't cost any more than two shorter lets, and you could come and go as you please, and leave luggage behind too.

I'd get an appartment for the whole stay, if you decide to go to Paris for a night, say, then swallow the cost.

of course, Paris. Why didn't I think of that?

[the best prices for the eurostar are definitely when tickets become available, I think about 3 months before the date of travel, so it would be worth looking at that asap if you are keen].

We had nine days in London
Did three tours
One to bath Stonehenge
Another out to Leeds castle
Third to Canterbury
All coach tours
Didn't want to do it like that but it was winter and it was a daughter mum team

We did see most of the sights around London too
Stayed in Leicester sq so very central

Did an independent tour of Harry potter studio ..caught a train and shuttle bus..that was a great day


We then left out luggage and took small bag to York for three days
Back to London for the evening and met husband and flew to Ireland
Fabulous trip
So yes
I'd stay in london

Went to Cotswolds and Oxford and the birthplace of Shakespeare on another tour.
Full days but it would've been difficult to have done it by public transport and seen all of those places
