Stay home?
I have been thinking recently that there are hundreds of places within 30 mins drive of my home, that I have never seen and I sometime advise visitors to go to, or I went to when I was a child. Many in my own City.
This I suspect is quite normal for us all. My question is, would you consider ditching the airports and ferries for just one holiday and doing all those things you really should have done by now? Interested in your thoughts? Muck |
I use showing guests around as an excuse to do things and see places I might otherwise postpone indefinitely. I've wanted to go to Portland so I have a friend coming from the UK and have suggested we might take the train there. I hope she likes the idea and my selfish motives.

Given the weather in the UK I struggle to think why I've spent so much time here as it is.
|
I'm saving those places for when I'm old and airports and ferries may seem too daunting.

the grass is always greener...
which is why we go there and they come here |
Frequently do, though I stretch the radius to 90 mins from my house by train.
Can't begin to understand why anyone thinks the bloody weather matters. No such thing here as bad weather: just stupid clothing decisions |
I used to live at one end of Skipton High Street. There's a castle at the other end (about 600 yards away). Still haven't visited it 15 years later.

I'd go on the ferry/airport holiday in a heartbeat, especially whilst I was still able to (health/money wise).
Plenty of time to do the short trips when you are older. Or even at the weekends! |
That's not true of our local area - we've seen almost all of that. But have not seen (or only on overnight business trips) a bunch of parts of the US - since for us getting to europe is just a quick (and more interesting).
Soon we are planning to do a Seattle/Vancouver trip. As for the western parks - I have mixed feelings. I like the idea of seeing animals (from the car) and geysers and waterfalls - but I want a modern hotel with all amenities - and I'm not hiking anywhere - although I would walk up to an hour or so to see things - as long as no snakes or big bugs are guaranteed. |
