starting a travel show
Me and DH like to travel so much that way are thinking about starting a travel show on cable. Has any one else ever done this? What advice would you give to me and DH to get started? We already have some vdeos to put in our inner nets.

We are innrested in doing Europe and the Scandinavio but maybe I should cross-address this in a better area?

Here is the best thread for a show, including all arguments about it:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34698212 It will compete with the "airline" for sure! |
Whatever you do, don't start the show by sticking your head out of a moving train compartment to gawk at the sights.
Its unsafe. And heaven's sakes, don't wear the same khaki pants every show. |
If this is on cable, you need to consider how to make it memorably different from similar shows. You could present each item in a style appropriate to the country - you could both dress up in national costume and perform the relevant folk song or dance (mind those swords in the Highland Fling!). You could consider doing the odd show in the nude (or maybe that would be too like the surrounding shows, depending on the kind of cable network you have in mind). Or why not do invite some Fodorites to join in the programme Jerry Springer-style - "My mother-in-law the Trip Nazi", "My girfriend cheated on me with three gondoliers, five gendarmes and the Dagenham Girl Pipers" - that sort of thing. It's all a matter of knowing what audience you want to attract, and how you plan to deal with the fanmail.

There aren't that many cable cars. Are you sure that you will have a big enough audience? ((I)) |
You will certainly have a plethora of resources from this forum. Many of us have friends in different locales who will be happy to host you and provide more local flavor than you ever imagined. My friend Erik in Budapest, who will treat you to the treasures of the spas and thermal baths, as he did me.My friend at UCLA, Matavesi, who will introduce you to the Bega Firewalkers in Fiji, for a personalized lesson in firewalking, a thrill you will NEVER forget.....and on and on and on....
