Stare Mesto Hotel: K+K Central or Hotel Josef? or??

early September for 4 nights, our first time in Prague
Price not higher than 220 E with breakfast for 2 people
Thinking of great hotel near center of town for easy exploration, but with rooms quiet for sleeping
any favorites of regular or recent visitors??
thanks so much!

I stayed at the K & K Central about 3 years ago. Loved the hotel as it is near to train station, centre of town yet the street is quiet. The English speaking staff are friendly and helpful. The champagne at breakfast was an added treat, too! Although very modern, the old elevator certainly adds to the character. I would stay there again.

It's kind of early to be booking for a year away, some places you may not even be able to do that. But, I just love the Hotel Pariz in Prague, it is perfect in about every way (location, quiet, decor, etc.).

http://www.hotel-paris.cz/en/

It's rooms are more like 250 euro, though, for next Sept. I prefer it to something like the Josef but mainly because I don't care for modern decor very much. The Josef's rates do look pretty cheap, but you can't book this far ahead anyway, it appears.

I also really like the HOtel Maximillian which is near the HOtel Josef, but I prefer its location better as it's on a quiet square with some good restaurants. Rybna isn't that bad, though. The Hotel Maximilian is also cheaper than Pariz, it is within your budget and I think its rooms are nicer than Josef's even though they are more modern. http://www.maximilianhotel.com/

I don't think you can book them this far ahead, either.

In September I stayed at Hotel Bishop's House just over the bridge in the Mala Strana area. It was very easy to find after walking all over. I am not good at finding my way around, so all I had to do was ask people the directions to Charles Bridge. The breakfast was wonderful and included. They also will arrange for a car to pick you up at the airport, train and bus station. I was very satisfied and will stay there again.

This summer I stayed in an apartment right by the Maximilan that Christina mentioned above. Location is indeed excellent. Our apartment was terrific but the building itself was very, very grotty. Stepping into the apartment was like walking not a different world. We loved it and the owner and her husband were wonderful to deal with. A/C worked well, and we were there in the dog days of late July.

Here's the trip advisor link if you think you can handle a gross courtyard and graffiti on the building:

I posted a few pics in my pbase gallery, starting around the 3rd photo:

That same trip I stayed solo for a few days in the Hotel Sax in Mala Strana. I chose the top room category and was very pleased. It's a quirky, funky hotel, though--not for everyone. Photos of my room are in my gallery above too. I think it's a lower category of hotel than you are considering, though.

Another vote for the Hotel Kampa in Mala Strana. This is a Best Western property but with local ambiance/charm. The location close to The Charles Bridge is next to a quiet and totally peaceful and safe park along the river. This hotel is not pretentious but has a unique history of its own. Its a liesurely stroll through the park to the Charles Bridge with a couple of museums along the way and several nice restaurants as you near the bridge. You can take a street level 'walk' from the Kampa Hotel through the park to the Charles Bridge by going to Google 'maps' and pasting this address, which is for the hotel Všehrdova 16, Malá Strana, Prague-Prague 1, Czech Republic.

The Kampa has private gated parking. All things considered the Kampa is our first choice of hotels when we visit Prague. If you Google 'Kampa Hotel, Prague' there are dozens of hotel booking sites that come up that have plenty of pictures, etc. We've usually gotten the best rates by booking directly through Best Western, however.
