My girlfriend and I would like a nice place near the Pantheon and if they have someone who speaks a little english it would help to prop up my dreadfull Italian.

You will really like this place, especially as girls travelling together, really safe position and so close to everything, fax them for the best rate on offer.
GENIO
Via G. Zanardelli 28, Rome 00186, Italy
Phone: 06/683-2191
Fax: 06/6830-7246
EUR100 to EUR260
Rooms at the top of this medium-size hotel, just at the ancient entrance to Piazza Navona, have terraces and citywide views. There's also a roof terrace for all, where you can have breakfast. Exuding classic Roman taste, the lobby, public areas, and rooms make you feel right at home. Rooms are decorated in warm colors and have parquet floors and a harmonious mix of modern and antique reproduction furnishings. 60 rooms. Bar, parking (fee). AE, DC, MC, V. Continental breakfast.
thank you, any other suggestions?

I don't think there's any 3* hotel in Rome for EUR 100. We booked Hotel Genio for June at EUR 206. June is peak time.

Mel is right. I stayed at the Hotel Cesari a couple blocks from the Pantheon and it was $100 for a single. Worth it though. Nice rooms, helpful staff.

We stayed at a 2star hotel, the Hotel Navona, last year. I believe you can get a double with bath for 100 euros.
It was pretty basic, but clean, the staff spoke English and the best part was the location..on a side street 1 block off of Piazza Navona and very close to the Pantheon.
You may want to check out other 2stars in the area.

Ellen: Can you describe the single at the Cesari? Was it like a pillbox, or an actual room? Balcony? Any other comments appreciated.

The del Senato overlooks the Pantheon, is rated three star, but I felt it deserved higher. It had great AC, quiet rooms, and a staff that was very fluent in English. A few more dollars than the Cesari which is also nice.

del Senato is LOVELY.
Stayed there last yr, doubles were about $180/day in july.
This yr they quoted me 240 Euros for a double in june, though.
But, if you can afford it, try to book there
Steve is right, much more than the 3*** that it has,
Plus, if you get a piazza facing room, you feel as if you can just reach right out and TOUCH the Pantheon!!
