Stansted to Leeds?

I am flying into Stansted and wish to get to Leeds. People are telling me all kinds of trains/buses that go there but I would like the most efficient timely way to go. Do I need to go to London from Stansted? I s that the quickest? How long a ride is Stansted to London? Stansted to Leeds? Help... Trip is tomorrow to Ireland and then Leeds. thanks for all your help so far.

I think Jean253 is thinking of a different airport.

There's no direct bus, and the bus connections are horrid.

The easiest (and cheapest, I think) train is a pretty painless connection at Peterborough, leaving STN for P'borough every hour and taking a bit over three hours from leaving Customs to arriving at Leeds. Going into London and out again would take forever, and require you to change stations.

Peterborough, BTW, gets a bad rap. It's without doubt one of the most boring cities in the world. But it has a stunning medieval cathedral just down the road from the station. Looking at its beauties, inside and out, is a much more useful way of spending the connection time than fretting over GNER's occasional delays. About £60 return, though the fact you're using two companies will make it tough to find a cheaper deal. It almost certainly would have been (and may still be) a lot cheaper to fly to Liverpool or Leeds.

The hourly train from Stansted to Peterborough is the obvious way to go. Peterborough is on the main line from London to Leeds. It may be marginally quicker to go via London, but the train from Stansted goes to Liverpool Street station, so you then have to get the tube to Kings Cross to get the Leeds train.
If you are going from Ireland to Leeds, then flying to Stansted wasn't really a sensible choice - it's not only a long way from Leeds but it's in the wrong direction. Cheap flights aren't cheap if they take you to the wrong place.

I'm afraid the other posters are right. In fact, depending on where you will be in Ireland, you may as well pay for an alternative flight instead of paying the train fare from Stansted to Leeds. Did you know that Ryanair fly Dublin - Leeds for example. The next nearest/easiest airport (and on the train line to Leeds) is Manchester. Can you give us any more details?
