St. Severin & St. Julien Le Pauvre

Looking for some good websites with photos and info about these 2 Paris churches. Our hotel looks to be right between the 2 so to knwo what we're looking at would be helpful. Thanks...

This may be more than you're looking for, but there's a lot of information about the history of St Julien-le-Pauvre, as well as several photographs, at:

then there is always pagesjaunes
you switch it to English, and there's a place to set the address of your hotel and voila...a picture of the street, and you can take a virtual visit all over the neighborhood.
I hope you enjoy Greek food...

St. Julien le Pauvre is also at the south end of a nice little gated park close to the Seine called Square Renee Viviani. From the park you have a great view of Notre Dame.

A nice one-pager about St Severin church.

A read about that area having a lot of Greek food...is it a quaint neighborhood? We stayd on Rue de Bac before, off St. Germain and loved the street, it had a real neighbohood feel with cafes, wine shops etc. Any other comments about that area? It's the Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauche.

Travelnut Jun 16th, 2004 05:57 AM

Sandi_travelnut, it seems to me your hotel is located south of Jardin de Luxembourg, near RER-Port Royal, which is not in the neighborhood of Severin or Julian le Pauvre, or rue de la Huchette (w/ all the Greek restaurants).

Is Hotel Henri IV at 9-11 rue St Jacques?

Travelnut Jun 16th, 2004 06:03 AM

No, sorry... it just seems that every map tool puts your location in a cul-de-sac 'way down rue St Jacques, rather than up by rue Galande.

Confusing... my bad.

sandi_travelnut Jun 16th, 2004 06:04 AM

It is the one on 9-11 rue Saint Jacques. When I made the reservation, I made it on the Hotel Henri Rive Gauche website. What part am I confused about?

sandi_travelnut Jun 16th, 2004 06:06 AM

whew! It took me long enough to decide on this one. I didn't want to go thru that again...I still have London, Venice, Florence and Rome to do!

I think some major online mapping software just had that location messed up, I saw it also.

It's down near St-Severin church, I'm sure you know. I wouldn't call it quaint around there, exactly. It is a very busy and touristy area with tons of people around on the nearby streets because it's only about a short block from the Seine and there are still souvenir shops around there. It is very old, of course.

It isn't a Greek neighborhood that I know of, but there are a few cheap tourist Greek restaurants/fast food places on rue de la Huchette. That entire street is full of places like that, souvenir shops, many tourists, etc. It's not like the rue de Bac area. I'm surprised you weren't around there a bit, it's hard to miss as a tourist because it's so near Notre Dame and the bookstalls on the Seine.

I'm sure I was around there but just didn't realize or pay attention to it. I did not visit St. Severin while I was there though. I'm sure we were passing quickly on our way to someplace else (looking for crepes probably)
