St. Remy or Aix-en-Provence?

Going to Provence is September. Currently have a reservation for 2 nights at Relais de Saint-Victoire near Aix-en-Provence and for 1 night at Le Mas des Carassins. Thinking of consolidating in one town and at one hotel. Any opinions out there?

Aix is not centrally located for visiting most of the big ticket "things" in Provence - and the St Victore is east of Aix so it's a little farther away even. Although I think the restaurant at St Victoire is fabulous, the hotel is not as nice.

I think you will enjoy the St Remy region much more than the area around Aix.

Enjoy your trip, and please post a report when you return. We'll be staying for 3 nights at Le Mas des Carassins in June, and I'd love to learn more!

In St. Remy do not miss Joel Durand's Chocolatier and nearby patisserie "Le Petit Duc". For dining Le Source is very good but only if outdoors in the garden.

The Wednesday outdoor market is great, 8 to 1.

We have visited St. Remy 13 straight years and plan to return this Fall. It is our Shangri-la.

I stayed at Mas De Carassins last may for 5 or 6 days and loved it. I wrote about it in my trip report and posted additional pictures:

Bonjour!

You cannot go wrong at Mas des Carassins! Stayed there for two nights last July and didn't want to leave, ever!! We have travelled extensively n France and this place is among the best we have ever experienced. Unbeatable location, great food (be sure to have dinner there), great owners, great resident dog (French bulldog named Beau, of course) and 8-minute walk into St. Remy. You could not wish for a better base for exploring Provence. We plan to go back for a week next summer and I already know it won't be long enough!

Bon voyage.

Another vote for St Remy & the Mas des Carassins. We met some friends in Aix af ew years ago. We got lost going into the city and coming out. The kind of 'lost' where you and your spouse get out of the car and walk in different directions!
