St Petersburg Nighttime site seeing

We will be in St Petersburg early Sept with a Baltic Cruise. I am booking our guide for 3 days but also one evening. I noticed that through Sept 30 Church of the Spilled Blood and Issac's Cathedral are open 6pm-10:30pm. I am considering going inside those in the evening one night in order to maximize our site seeing during the day. I realize I will also definitely want to see the exterior of the Church of the Spilled Blood in the daytime, but any reason going inside these two at night would not be the time to see them?

Anything else to see in the evening (other than theater/ballet/bars). I read from one blogger that it is beautiful to see St Petersburg in the evening all lit up - do you agree?

Yes, St. Petersburg is gorgeous at night. The Hermitage is another building I'd see, along with Kazan Cathedral, which is across Nevsky Prospekt from where you'd go to Church on Spilled Blood. St. Isaac's is beautiful at night as well. The spire of Peter and Paul Fortress is lit too, which you may be able to see from near the Hermitage.

I didn't go into Church on Spilled Blood at night but I did go into Kazan Cathedral after dark. Nothing special about it. It makes sense to go at night to maximize time on the ground, but I'd want to make sure that Church on Spilled Blood is well lit at night because the interior is absolutely spectacular and I wouldn't want it so dark that I'd miss that.

You may have read the phrase "all lit up" in one of my posts - but if not, I agree, St. Petersburg is very beautiful at night! ;-) Definitely get out and walk by the Neva river at night. In September, you won't have to stay up nearly as late as I did in June to see it at night!

St. Issac's is actually open past midnight - at least to go up on the viewing deck and look down - as I recall. I was staying at a hotel right across the street from St. Issac's, and even though it didn't get dark til almost midnight, I was still tempted to go out there late to see the bridges go up at 2AM. Just too tired, couldn't make myself do it.

I never got to see the Church of the Savior of Spilled Blood at night - again, much too late for me for June.

These are not exclusive since it will be daylight until nearly 8PM in early Sept. So go see Church around 7:30-8:00-ish. That way you can see it in 'daylight' and then go inside

St Petersburg is gorgeous at night.

I absolutely agree that St. Petersburg is beautiful at night! Try to find some time to be on the north side of the Neva, so you can see the Winter Palace lit and reflected in the waters -- glorious!

I can't see any reason not to go into the churches at night.

Enjoy!

Ok

You will be okay

Yes, go inside St.Issac's Cathedral and Church of the Spilled Blood.

When you are inside the Church of the Spilled Blood, you might think those a beautiful painted Murals all over the interior......

Put your hand on the wall and you will see they are Mosaics, that is why it took so long to complete the Church.

Have a good time.

St.Petersburg is really beautiful in the night. Ask your guide, maybe you'll take a night tour by river. I sure, you'll get much impressions.

i really wanted to do a night tour... there's one on the canals... but in July, it seems to get dark at almost 10pm... and the night tours go until almost 3am... and we are only there 2 days, so have to get up the following morning at 6am... wishing there was a way to see it lit up and be in bed by midnight. anyone know of night tour that is quite short??
