St. Petersburg Guides
Any recommendations for a private English speaking guide in St. Petersburg for seeing parts of the city not on the usual tours.

this one comes highly recommended here. I recently contacted her for a trip this summer and she responded quickly:
http://www.tourservice.sp.ru/ Her name is Olga. |
I, too, just returned from a tour of St. Petersburg (along with my wife, daughter, and friend) and used Tatyana Churikova ([email protected]) as a guide. She was wonderful!
College educated, energetic, flexible, great sense of humor, and speaks flawless English, Tatyana was knowledgable and displayed excellet judgment in her choice of locations, transportation, personnel (such as drivers) and restaurants. Finally, her prices were competitive and she was, honestly, a joy to be around. I would highly recommend her services. |
Here's another huge recommendation for Olga http://www.tourservice.sp.ru/
She was highly recommended on this Forum and we were very pleased in every way. |
I highly recommend Tatyana Churikova [[email protected]] in St. Petersburg, who was an excellent guide on my recent October 2007 trip. College educated, multilingual, keen interest in history, which all made St. Petersburg come to life for me. I requested two very intense days with no stops, half hour max stop for lunch; as a result, I saw more in 2 days than most see in 5 thanks to Tatyana! Tatyana's rates include a car and driver, which made my time all the more enjoyable.

As mentioned, I found Olga through recommendations of frequent posters here on Fodor's. I would not likely have hired a guide recommended twice by one-time contributors.

I can highly recommend Anastasia - very personalized tour, VIP service and good rates. You can prearrange everything via e-mail. Tell her your special interests.
We booked her for a two-day tour from a cruise ship including ballet show at the Mariinsky, and everything was just perfect. http://www.anastasiaworld.com/ |

well, hiring independent guides is okay, but i guess it's safer when you do that through an agency that can easily find a substitution should you hate your guide or should she fall ill or whatever, or maybe not even show up. we used www.spbtourguide.com and our guide was Elena and we absolutely loved her. i would say their rates are definitely NOT more expensive than most freelancers charge but it's definitely MUCh safer!
