St Peter Stiftskeller
I have reservations for three people at this restaurant for Christmas Dinner. Two of us will likely have a glass of wine, and none of us are big eaters.
For those of you who have eaten here, what can I expect in terms of cost? Is it necessary to order a three or four course meal, or can you go a la carte? The website does not post menu prices, but I understand this place is pricey.
I looked at the Hotel Sacher forChristmas Eve...they quoted me a price of 170euro p/p. Needless to say, we will not be dining there!! I just don't want similar sticker shock at St Peter!
Thanks all! And Happy holiday wishes to all!

You might want to do a bit of research right now to see of they have their normal dinner options or a special menu on the evening you have reservations. Special menus will give you less options, may even be fixed menus, and def more expensive.

You're there for Christmas! Enjoy the antiquity of this historic place where you'll probably never be again. By all means, order a Nockerl, a heavenly and huge torte-like dessert, and while we ate there many years ago and not on Christmas, my recollection was that it was not expensive. What I do in cities is make multiple dinner reservations, then based on the day's activities, weather, mood, etc., make our decision and cancel them at a reasonable time to allow for rebooking. So, make a reservation here and perhaps at another one or two and when you arrive, your hotel can help you make your decision. This place was one of our highlights of our Austrian trip I can tell you that.

I'm picky about Austrian desserts. Salzburger Nockerl aren't a torte, and frankly, look more interesting than they taste:

You definitely need to contact them directly. It is very likely that for Christmas there will by special set menus at special prices.
We ate there and enjoyed it very much - the food was good (not great thought) and the atmosphere (ambiance, music, etc) was wonderful. I would say it is a mid price restaurant - not upscale - but then I don't think 170 euros is outrageous for a holiday meal.

We do one special meal in each city we visit and assume the cost will be $300 to $350 per couple (without extravagant wine). So a little more for a holiday meal doesn't seem out of control - but it is a splurge.
How much are you looking to spend?

I figured about $300 for the 3 of us, one of whom is 15 and won't drink. I and my 24 yo will probably have one glass of wine each and she is not a big eater...not quite a vegetarian...but close!
I checked with the restaurant. They do not have a special holiday menu, just the regular selections, so we should be fine.
