St. Peter Port, Guernsey, England

St. Peter Port is a stop on a future cruise. I'm beginning to look at excursions and things to do in the ports of call. Is this a walking town? Are things to see and do without a guided tour? How is the weather in mid Sept.? Thanks for any info.

You don't say how long you have off the cruise. I think there is a lot to see in the port area, but some sights are beyond walking distance, and some sights may interest you more than others. We found the WWII/German occupation sights and the city architecture very interesting. I'm not into shopping at all.

You should look at some "Top 10 Things to Do" lists, look at guided tours, and then decide whether to explore on your own, using the occasional taxi if necessary, or join a guided tour. A lot depends on how much time you have.

Here are some links that may help:

I can't speak to weather in mid-September. We've only been there in May and October, but you can check weather records. Here's one source:

Parts of the town are steep but you don't need a guided tour.

There are some pretty small bays on the island that would be difficult to get to without a car. The occupation museum is home-grown and all the better for it.

The museum is very near the airport, there might be a bus to it. http://www.germanoccupationmuseum.co.uk/index-5.html

The postage stamps are usually very pretty if you know anyone who likes to collect them or you could plan to send postcards from there.
