What can I expect in Ireland on St. Patrick's Day...if anything?

Expect to find a bunch of Amercians getting drunk in pubs...Irish people aren't into Paddy's day that much. It's really an American holiday. In Ireland, March 17 basically means to start of the American invasion for the warmer months. You can have fun though, but the locals will laugh at you if you wear green and a "Kiss me, I'm Irish" button.

We will be in Ireland for St Patricks Day and from what I have been told, people do celebrate because we were advised to book our B&B's for that weekend in advance. They celebrate the 16th but the 17th is a religious holiday as St Patrick is their Patron Saint. Will you also be in Ireland at that time?

Irish people not only celebrate in Ireland but everywhere in the world - I shall be celebrating here in Italy with my friends and of course my son Patrick!<BR><BR>I shall be thinking of my country and envious of all those who are there on the 17th - especially this year as they will have a whole weekend of fun.

Yes, St. Patrick's Day is a religious holiday, but that doesn't mean people in Ireland celebrate it as such. Sure, some people go to Mass. But many of us are sleeping off our excesses of the previous night, and enjoying an extra day off from work. Of course, this year it falls on a Sunday, so no extra Mass!<BR><BR>Oh, and please don't call it St. Patty's Day. Patty is a girl's name. Paddy is short for Patrick.
