st pancras to gatwick tomorrow-- help please!!
we thought we were going to take the express from st pancras to gatwick -- but see now that it leaves from victoria and is quite expensive. can someone tell me if we can take the longer train from st. pancras station-- and how long/ how much it will cost? if we take this train, is it frequent, and do we need tickets ahead of time? sorry for not doing my homework here-- we fly tomorrow and i was caught off-guard. thanks much, kawh

Looks like the First Capital Connect is not running through to Gatwick this weekend from St Pancras.
Other options: Victoria Line to Victoria and then the Southern train to Gatwick - this is coming up as £9ish per person for me Northern Line to London Bridge then the Southern train to Gatwick - London Bridge to Gatwick is coming up as around £9 as well per person. |
I don't quite understand the panic. True, the only "Express" is the Gatwick express from Victoria. But there is quite frequent service on regular trains from St Pancras.

"i'm just going to go with gatwick express.."
Why? Southern's cheaper and takes about 0.0003 nanoseconds longer. On weekdays, at rush hours, there's sometimes a case for forking out for the Gatwick Express, because Southern can get crowded. That just doesn't apply at weekends. The ONLY argument for the Gatwick Express would be if it were losing money, in danger of being closed and you felt altruistically that, without your support, its shareholders would be left dividend-less. It's not. And even if it were, there must be more deserving charities in your own country you can contribute to. |
Actually the work on the Thameslink route seems to have been cancelled for tomorrow, so there are trains running from St Pancras. However, there will be weekend engineering works on this route next weekend (including the Bank Holiday Monday) and then again mid-July and late August.
