St. Germain or Trocadero - 6th or 16th in Paris?
 

Please help me choose an apartment for my honeymoon in Paris. (We have never been to Paris.) Here are the main things we are looking for: to be able to prepare some meals at the apartment, to be in a relatively safe area, to be close to outdoor cafes or markets, close to the Metro, and as quiet as possible. I have found three apartments within our price range, two are in St. Germain near Rue Cler and the other is in the 16th on Rue Scheffer. We thought Rue Cler would be great,then we saw the view of the Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero area and now cannot make up our minds! Thanks so much!

I see now that Rue Cler is actually in the 7th. I'm afraid that I will be just as lost and confused in Paris as I am now!

I stayed in Trocadero on my first trip to Paris and loved it. I liked seeing the tower first thing in the morning and the metro stop right there is very handy. I am familiar with the Rue Cler area as well, and think for convenience and less of a mob scene, Trocadero might be the better choice.

I think either location is probably going to be okay, and I'd choose on other matters, such as the apartment. None of these are really that nice in some ways, although I know you can't get much in a rental apartment at that rate (which may be how you chose). This is just my opinion of the looks, so if they suit you in that regard, I personally thought I'd like the one in the 16th better and it is cheaper, so I'd go for that. That's a nice area, I like it, and has what you want.

The reason I didn't like it so much was the living room furniture is pretty basic and uncomfortable looking. ON the other hand, the #77 has a bed that looks suspect to me -- no mention of its size, so I suppose double (the others are queens), but it also looks like it may not have a box spring. That room is nothing remotely romantic, it looks like a college dorm room.

I wouldn't book the #2 near rue Cler because it shows no photo of the living room (bad sign when they won't show you) and because it is a ground floor apartment. I won't stay in one of those, but again, that is personal. It's a lot smaller than #77, also, and about the same price.

Do you really want to prepare meals in these places? Those are really minimal kitchenettes and one of them may not have an oven from what I saw. I would not want to be cooped up in these little places eating meals when you have Paris to be out in. YOu can dine out in Paris very reasonably and enjoy the ambience and people and night. If you just want to make coffee in the morning or something, okay.

Personally I felt the 16th to not have as many restaurants and market areas as the 6th. For sure the Eiffel Tower is the real draw here. But the 6th has the Buci market and you can walk to the Rue Mouffetard market in the 5th if you wanted. There's also a Monoprix near Blvd. St. Germain (on rue Tournon?). But if you chose not to cook there are many restaurants to choose from in all budgets. Also you don't have to depend on the metro as much as you can walk comfortably to other areas.
