St. Germain hotel recommendations?
We are looking for a 3 star hotel in St. Germain for 4 people (one large suite or 2 connecting roms) for under $500/nt. Any recommendations? The following interest me: Hotel Danube, Hotel des 2 continents, Hotel des Marronniers, Hotel Ferrandi, Hotel Left Bank and Hotel Saint Paul. MERCI!

I have stayed in the Ferrandi - for 2 nights a couple of years ago. It was a last-minute reservation when I had to return early from another part of France due to a train strike. I would NOT stay there again! I have stayed in lots of 3-star hotels in various parts of France, and several in Paris - and was pleased with all- except for the Ferrandi. The room wasn't nice, drapes falling down, etc., and the women on front desk were quite unhelpful.
In St. Germain, I like the Clos de Medicis (near Luxembourg Gardens) and the Aviatic (a great little hotel in St. Germain, but close to Blvd. Montparnasse). Anyway, forget the Ferrandi! |
Thank you Sue. Will forget he Ferrandi.
The Aviatic looks quite far from the center of St. Germain? The Clos is booked and if not, the rates are showing as $300/rm (I need 2) or $750 for a suite - bummer as it looks nice. Any other suggestions? |
I have stayed at Hotel des 2 continents and Hotel des Marronniers, both are very similiar and about 4 buildings apart. I really like this street and area, I think you would be happy with either one. The Marronneirs is set back off of the street, which is quieter, The Deux Continents has three buildings, I prefer the ones in the back, quieter. As far as I know neither hotel has any large suites, the room for three is pretty small, so I would take two rooms.

Susanna, both sound good. Looks like the Maronn. is better as they have two rooms next to each other. The 2 Cont. will only say they have 2 rooms on the same floor - not good with kids. I have had a very hard time finding rooms that connect!
Thx. |
You don't say when you are in Paris. While I adore the Danube and have stayed there at least 20 times, I would not recommend it for hot summer months...no A/C. Also the "apts" are smallish. If they have connecting larger rooms, I've not seen them. Their larger rooms are lovely but as far as I know don't connect.
We've also stayed at des Marronniers, it to is very nice but again, I have no knowledge about connecting rooms. Is there a specific reason they need to connect? Why don't you try for an apartment? I'm switching to apts. as we usually stay at least 2 weeks at a time. I've just rented a beautiful apt., suitable for 4 people, in an area very close to rue JAcob for $189.00/night for 2 or $229.00/night for 4. Look up vacation in Paris..loads of good rentals. |
We are going June 9 for 5 nts. I think A/C is a must just in case, don't you? I didn't realize Danube didn't have A/C - so glad you told me!!!!!
Just wanted connecting rooms if possible since i have kids for convenience sake, but i guess they really are old enough (13,15). I looked for apts at first but was having a very difficult time finding one that was avlble - seems like everyone else will be in Paris when we are! I used vacationinparis.com and they only had one in 5eme that was avlble (#123) but it was closer to Luxembourg gardens and only had 1 bath for $285/nt. Which one are you renting?? Your location is much better - Rue Jacob!! |
Look at the Hotel de l'Université:
http://www.hoteluniversite.com It's been a number of years, but I'd stay there again and the price looks right. |
