St-Cyprien Wine Quest
 

greetings, francophiles -

i just returned from a week in the dordogne where i stayed in a beautiful stone house overlooking the river just above st-cyprien. while i was there i had many enjoyed many lovely - and inexpensive - local wines which were recommended by Jacques, the proprietor of the local wine shop. i'd like to stay in touch with Jacques, but foolishly i left st-cyprien without jotting down his contact info, or even the name of the wine shop. hence, my question: does anyone happen to remember the name of the wine store in st-cyprien? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know Jacques and I know that store, but I can't for the life of me remember the name of it, and it doesn't show up in the list of commerçants on the official St-Cyprien website.

The wines, though, are Bergerac, Pécharmant, Montravel, Saussignac, Rosette, and Monbazillac. I think there are a couple more that I've forgotten.

Could it be Jacques Ruard at Le Choix des Rois?

Thank you both for your help. I should have jotted down the name of the wine shop, but of course I didn't. It didn't seem to me that there was more than one wine shop in St-Cyprien so perhaps Le Choix des Rois is the one? It was on the town's "main" street. Maybe I'll try sending a letter and seeing what happens. Ant other suggestions?

Le Coix des Rois it is! It's on the rue Gambetta, the main market street that runs straight through town.

I've had a house in St-Cirq, outside Le Bugue, for 17 years. I'm a regular at the St-Cyprien market when I'm over there, and I actually have a couple of shops in St-Cyprien I frequent. I like Julien de Sauvignac's wine shop in Le Bugue better than Jacques', but I do go there once in awhile anyway.

We stopped in Le Bugue on our way to St-Cyprien from Paris. It was late on a rainy Saturday afternoon and we were desperate to pick up a few basic grocery items (coffee, milk, etc.). I ducked into a boulangerie on the outskirts of town and a patisserie in the heart of the village and asked the women behind the counters (in my worse than lame French) if they could direct me to a supermarket. they were both so lovely and gracious and as their English was as bad as my French they both eventually grabbed a napkin and sketched out maps for me. I found the market - I saved the maps. Did you know that Jacques is from Le Bugue?
