St. Andrews Scotland Dinner

Which would be the best choice for a nice dinner for our one night in St. Andrews?

The Grange Inn

The Doll's House

The Vine Leaf

Be there on May 24th. Very excited !!

Do you actually think that anyone can answer that question for you?

If all you want is some reviews by strangers who have no idea of what YOU consider the definition of 'best' is, why not just go to Tripadvisor where countless numbers of strangers review restaurants all the time.
http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaurant..._Scotland.html

Of the 3 you list, one is known for seafood, one for Scottish food and the third for European/French with some Scottish thrown in for the tourists. None of which will tell you which serves the best steak cooked medium rare. So which is best?

Dulciusexasperis, you don't have to be such a jerk!

I like all kinds of food.

I enjoy gourmet restaurants as well as quirky restaurants with good food.

Therefore, if there was one restaurant in St. Andrews for a special dinner, which restaurant would the local members of this forum suggest.

Unfortunately I've only been to one of those - the grange, and it has new owners since I was last there.

Do you want a posh meal? If so, consider the Peat Inn in. . . . tada . . . Peat Inn (that is the name of the village). Not at all far from St. Andrews and very VERY good. Expensive but totally worth it.

>>which restaurant would the local members of this forum suggest.<<

I think you may be starting from a false premise here. Based on regular participation on this forum for over 10 years, I wouldn't presume there are any Fodorites who are actually "local" to St Andrews, though I dare say many will have visited one or more times.

I spent 4 years in St Andrews myself back in the '80s (the local restuarant scene then was fairly dire, but it has greatly improved) and have returned several times since - but would not consider myself to have in-depth knowledge of all the local restaurants. Of the three places you mention, I've only eaten in the Dolls House on two occasions - which was very enjoyable.

Like it or loathe it, I think you'll gert a broader perspective of reviews on TripAdvisor.

Gordon _R Thank you for your insight.

LOL, like I said, do you actually think anyone can answer that question for you?

Before you rush off to Tripadvisor to read what a bunch of strangers think of a restaurant, you might want to read this thread: http://www.fodors.com/community/trav...ripadvisor.cfm

I'm not being a jerk ttandy, I'm simply telling you it like it is. It is an illogical question to ask strangers.
