Does La Giostra (Florence) require a coat and tie as one website indicated?

I have always been under the impression that how one dresses to eat has nothing to do with whether or not they consider it dining, their last meal on earth, etc., nor does how they dress dictate the service speed in a restaurant, what the pl;ace serves, or anything else.

While the whining schoolchildren are playing their usual oneupmanship games I would advise you to take a sport coat and wear it as you see fit. Your fiance may (or may not) feel a bit more comfortable both mentally and physically if he feels he is appropriately dressed for any eating occasion; he may also be less disappointed that the two of you were't precluded from eating somewhere that looks interesting because he didn't have "the right clothes."

Have a great trip.
